Opel Kadett 400

Morning all,

Let me tap the brains of the more experienced and diversified rally model collectors amongst you - rather than the somewhat narrow-minded and blinkered individuals amongst us! Cough cough, wink wink...

Has anybody ever made a model of the 1980s Opel Kadett 400, as used in South Africa by Tony Pond, and later by Murray Grierson on assorted National rallies in the UK? If anybody has, what are the chances of finding one?

Never heard of it but what a cool looking motor. Would strongly suspect thats a scratch build if you want one.

That look great. I suspect myself it is built from a kit but otherwise no idea

One i planned to make sometime and a friend built one from a GAMA Kadett model years ago

I do not know if a model was ever made in any scale of a Kadett 400 but there is a 1/1 Kadett in Ireland and its been well used on smaller events over the years.

Just back from holiday and catching up...

As many have said I am pretty sure nobody has ever made a model of this one. They could not get enough other models out of the mould.

But as a one off it would be possible. As ever you would need a good base model (Gama as Mark has suggested) and loads of photos.

I did wonder why you had stepped away from your normal path, BUT I then realised why. Oh I nearly said what you are up to!!

A Dutch guy built a replica recently and it appeared in Eifel in either 2015 or 2014. So a trawl of those photos might produce quality material - Reinhard would't have allowed him participate if the signwriting was not 100%.

Got images of the 2014 Eifel so will put some up this weekend.

Thank you Chris, and as I stated above, I didn't think that anyone had previously made a model kit of this interesting car. A base model has already been sourced, and I have just bought some more shares in Milliput on the Stock Market. Watch this space...

Quite right James, and having seen some photos of it already, it looks a very fitting 'tribute' to the original.

Well if your making one you might aswell make two or more then

Bernie Rooney in his Opel Kadett 400. This was one of the spare shells that Malcolm Wilson bought from South Africa when he bought the full car and spares from GM SA. This was built up by Bernard using parts from his Ascona.

.................Thinking again the guys name was White or Whyte ????? anybody shed some light on the subject......or the car
