Race Retro 2015 - Feb 20th - 22nd

May as well get the ball rolling on this now, only two and a half months until Race Retro 2015. I missed this years show due to the Paddy Hopkirk Gala in Belfast but have boat and beds booked as of 10 minutes ago for the trip to Stoneleigh next February.

The Rallying Celebration next year is a tribute to Richard Burns

Got a good deal via www.hotels.com for the Chesford Grange Hotel if anyone is planning on staying but book sooner rather than later as it's a popular place for people heading to the show.


The most important question for the forum is; Who else, apart from Chris (CDM), is going to be there???

I have just booked our model display spot last weekend, so the model club will be there at RR2015, in Hall 1 Stand J46

Dave Cox is doing a Richard Burns display and Steve Nottage a Retro Rallycross display.

If I can and I have space in the car I will try and do as Group B box.

I will be in the autojumble again sharing with John Horton in Hall 2.

More on our displays nearer the time.

Yes indeedy, looking forward to the event. Had a superb time in Feb 2014 (my first time there) and am creating some new models of old rallycross cars to add to the display.

It's looking like I'll be there for the Sunday but not in person the other days - annual leave limitations - but that's not decided for definite yet.

I have it on good authority that Ari is coming to Race Retro in 2015 as he is expecting to catch the very same cup he threw up into the air in 1985.

Apparently, scientists have calculated that from the trajectory and thrust with which he threw it back then, it is due to land back on earth at Stoneleigh in February! How's that for a coincidence?

I found out yesterday that BL Special Tuning created a four wheel drive Mini for rallycross purposes using a four wheel drive set up created by (Sir) Alec Issigonis and a 1293cc engine running four Amal carbs to generate 124 bhp way back in 1971.

I'm delighted to report that since yesterday afternoon, I've dug out an unmade Mini Clubman kit in 1:43 scale, modified the body (removed the central ridge to the bonnet, de-bumpered, used Miliput to create extended wheel arches and filled in the rear light positions) and interior and am creating the decals for it. Just waiting for the paint to dry before final fettling and construction, so it will be in my display of rallycross cars!!

Just seen on Facebook that Rallying with Group B are panning on having 50 cars on the Live Stage and up to 12 on display.

Andrew Wood, Jimmy McRae, Russell Brookes, Dai Llewellin and Mark Higgins will join Ari Vatanen in driving some of the cars that will be there

Race Retro is just over a month away.

The South Hants Model Auto Club display will be in our usual spot on stand J46 in Hall 1 (the rally hall) and we face into the Group B Rally display

On our stand we will have a display of 1:18th scale Le Mans winners, Australian Motorsport, a Tribute to Richard Burns (from Dave Cox), a Retro Rallycross (from Steve Nottage) and finally a Group B display (from yours truly).

Unfortunately, due to John Horton double booking himself we wont be taking an autojumble space this year.

So if anyone wants any Rally Books/Models and wishes to collect them from me at the show to save a load of postage, please let me know what you are after and I will bring them with me.

If anyone finds a list of cars taking part in the Rally Demo outside on the Saturday and Sunday can you please post it on this link. I have heard rumours that arguments abound and there might not be a rally demo at all??

I'm trying to get down for RR this year, but I'm due to work all weekend so I'll let you guys know if I manage to 'swing it'!
