Re: DRM Members Model.... Suggestions & Chat Thread
That's as I understand it too James - we're voting to BUY the model of our choice!
please don't take this the wrong way david (and others) but have i missed any notion of a price yet? a commitment to buy is well and good but if a builder takes orders for the 25 or more forum models, then turns around and asks £150 for each one, do you think the voters will still want one? (obviously i'm using a high price to illustrate the point)
i know we havent even got a model yet, let alone a builder, but we dont want another case where a builder ends up with a load unwanted bases....or would a deposit sort that? if the price quoted is subsequently deemed high by a winning voter, will this cause potential hassle?
sorry guys, dont want to be negative...i totally appreciate the idea of a forum model, and i intend to buy one....if its at a reasonable cost, as you all know the only 1:43 i collect are mantas, so it would be as a reflection of my fondness and support for this place, plus the having a rare special and meaningful model.... but i really would have a limit on what i'd be prepared top pay for a non-manta wee one....hope this makes sense and doesnt offend anyone...never my intention...

Re: DRM Members Model.... Suggestions & Chat Thread
To the best of my knowledge there were three slightly different liveries on the Coleman M3. Should it be chosen andan event agreed upon it would give the modelbuilder scope to work with a larger number of base models and sell "variants" as I suspect the final model will not sell anywhere near the 80 odd the old forum model did. There would also be a demand from non forum members in the general Millstreet area.

Excellent points. However I have assumed all along that there are a number of basic givens (not exhaustive):
1. Reasonable cost or at least equal cost.
2. Reasonable quality
3. Photo availability
4. A builder willing and able to do the model.
An overpriced model will never sell. I don't mean to lay down the law but I am currently paying between 50 euro and 80 euro for models for my collection and expect the forum model to fall somewhere within that range.
My point has been that I would hate to see the voting skewed by people who have no intention of buying the final model. Theoretically it could be skewed enough to skupper the entire process if enough of those voting for the winning model back out when it comes to buying it.

Re: DRM Members Model.... Suggestions & Chat Thread
yeah james just what i meant...i wouldn't want to be guilty of voting for a model, for the reasons above, only to pull out because i cant justify the cost, and leaving the builder with an unwanted item..... if we had an idea of the price, some, including me, might decide not to falsely vote for a winner we weren't intending to buy.....but i know this is impossible at this early stage...

Re: DRM Members Model.... Suggestions & Chat Thread
Likewise Billy - very valid points, and do not worry I don't take it personally.
With anything like this there are always going to be certain circumstances that would / could make any individual decide to buy said model, even though they may well have contributed to the votes that decided on the eventual winner. The 'givens' that James has stated are paramount, and will no doubt be everyone's criteria once the winner has been decided, when (if?) a modelmaker has committed to building them, and ultimately if the model is of a subject that the individual actually wants within his collection.
However - use me as an example for a moment! - if the Feckin Biggerstaff 6R4 wins, and it is decided that will be the subject of the DRM Forum Model, then as long as it is priced on par with any other current Code 3 model release, has also been built to a suitably high quality, AND that my own personal situation hasn't changed so much that I then find myself without any surplus cash for luxuries such as rally models, then I don't see why I would not fulfill my 'commitment' by actually placing my order for said model - especially after my vote contributed to it winning the member's vote!
Life always throws up the odd 'curve ball' from time to time, and I'm sure some of you on here will have had more of them than others over the years. However, if 'The Price Is Right', the quality is to a suitable standard - and we all have our own standards! - and I (still using me as an example!) are not playing with one of life's 'curve balls' at the time the model is released, then I fully intend to fulfill my commitment.
I don't think I have explained myself tremendously well, but I think you know what my point is. To be honest, as I see it each vote should really be taken as some form of intent to buy, however there are always going to be those certain criteria that need to be met, prior to me actually putting my hand in my pocket and whipping out a stash of my hard earned....
...Subject, Price, Quality and Personal Situation at the time.
Just my 2p's worth of course, take as you all feel fit.

I personally would vote for 2 of these but could be still put off if the price isn't right.

Re: DRM Members Model.... Suggestions & Chat Thread
.
Sorry I only got a chance to reply once today, I was using the phone and it was a ballix!!
There has been a lot of good points raised over the last few pages so I'll try to answer them giving my opinion,
On the subject of the next round of voting it has been my plan all along to put up a Suggestions Thread so we could make up a list of models to choose from,
Then the next step was to find a list of models that would make it into the Short List giving each member a chance to pick their top 5 models from the suggestions list,
After the top 5 models were picked we would then each have 1 vote to pick our forum model thinking that any member voting would also want to buy the model,
As this has been going along I have always tried to encourage members to vote so we could have a idea and gauge how many models would be ordered and sold,
I'd be more than happy to keep the ball rolling and put the Short Listed models up for a poll and we each have 1 vote for the model you are willing to buy if it is taken up by a builder to build,
As for the cost of the model it's far too early to put a price on it as we don't know what model is so can't work out the cost of base models, decals or the time to build it,
Again this is something I've mentioned before in an earlier post back when we were talking about deposits ,
"Yeah I would have to agree that a deposit would need to be paid up front + only order/make enough models based on the demand,
As for the model again it would have to be a car that photos can be got for + base models are cheap and easy to get,
As said it's all very well picking out models that are on peoples wish list but if the model involves respraying or real tricky decals then it will push costs up,"
I'll try to load up photos of all the cars on the short list for the members who have asked and do it before the next round or votes,
I'd like to thank everyone for their votes, feedback, suggestions and opinions so far as it all helps to work out what everyone is thinking and keep things moving along,
Cheers Lad's

I agree Graham. Not very nice livery for a MK2 and Bradley's looks alot better. I am surprised that other such as Phil Collins Ascona didn't get more votes.

Connie Smith's Black MK2 escort was one of the iconic and most popular sights on Irish rallies for many years. it was up there with Kieran O'Neills Opel Kadette. He had a huge following a bit like Frank Kelly today.

Re: DRM Members Model.... Suggestions & Chat Thread
is it not time we had a builder on board that is willing to take on the building of 1 of these 6 selected models and hear his thoughts, what happens if the winning model is too tricky and no builder wants to do it?
p.s..... i hope the meagher or murphy cossie wins!!
