It is amazing how different the same car can look in diferent photos.

Was the BMW a little darker blue than the Porsche? My recollection is that is was but, maybe, that was just persception as the striping was much thinner and there just seemed to be a lot more of the blue - just not as dark as the OTTO model. That is almost black!

Its a tough on alright, it seems to change with the lighting conditions. Ive made some test sprays of all the blues I have. Can imediately discount the first two. The third is the same as the first test Holts Blue 3, 4th is Atlantis Blue, the last is tamiya ts15. Even this picture doesnt photograph the colours well.

Re: My GXI 9427 Collection
Are you spraying all new blue or just blue over the red bits?

Re: My GXI 9427 Collection
All new blue Rory. The Rothmans M3s have a small scribe line where they have sprayed the blue (not on the Fina car), so its a simple mask up and use that line to trim up the masking tape.
May as well paint the while lot as Im a bit OCD, Id never be able to look at the model with 2 colour blues and say I was happy with it. Im already thinking about re-doing the Cronin car as they will now be different colours. The only thing stopping me is that they will be in seperate display cases so it may not be as noticable

Re: My GXI 9427 Collection
I've ordered a set of 1/24 decals on ebay which have the whole blue decal set out. Ant the roof lines too. The bonnet stripe needs to be made bigger on the blue area otherwise its all the same. I'm hoping to scan the sheet, blow it up to 1/18 and using photo modifying software I hope to darken the blue decals on the scan with a view to printing up a matching blue decal which will simply go onto the red of the boot lid and rear spoiler. If I can can get this to work I should be able to produce conversion decals to make it into the Coleman car. I can print up the roof and bonnet gold and red stripes on the Alps.

Re: My GXI 9427 Collection
I had thought about using decals, but for 1/18, I find it easier to mask up and spray. I think trying to design decals would take longer than just spraying it. Although Im not planning on selling any of these so I dont have to take the re-production in account. In which case decals would be better.
What Ill do for the gold is use bare metal foil, like I used on the Cronin car. Then print the red stripes. I will need to get the white printed up as I cant do that. What I have done is remove the original white decals I need to reproduce by using sellotape, stuck that tape and decals onto cardboard, scanned the cardboard and will use that scan to make my new decals. Will be basically a 2 minute job of sizing the artwork over the scan and this will give me perfect scaling and spacing, as if Otto had done it themselves.

Re: My GXI 9427 Collection
About time I updated this thread.
Anyone at the millstreet show would have seen the Coleman M3 that was still wearing home made decals and windows stuck on with cellotape if you looked closely. Finally got time to get the proper decals on it and get the whole thing back together. Glad to say its now finished.
And here are all three finished to date. The case itself gained as much attention at the show as the models. Luckily I have another one of these cases for the other 3 models to be made. Once all are done, I plan to use the space in between each model for a small write up on each drivers time in the car eg event/wins etc. Not too sure what M3 to do next as the guy who prints my decals has fallen off the face of the earth. Need a new guy, or better yet, my own printer for printing white

Re: My GXI 9427 Collection
Thanks lads. Should make for a pretty good display when the other case is done as well.
Still long road ahead and ive left 2 until last for a reason to see if more pictures pop up in the meantime. Im not sure which events to go with for the Nesbitt and Meeghan cars. While I have pictures of both cars, I dont know if Nesbitt ever won in the car in the National championship and I doubt Meeghan ever won anything in the car. Id like to do events they won or at least had a good drive on, something with a story behind it but I dont have any info on the mid 90s events

Cracking looking trio Brian, great work.
I think Nesbitt won Monaghan or Cavan in the M3?
