Re: e-bay and/or paypal problems/issues
I sold a model to a guy in the UK a few weeks ago-off eBay but using paypal. We did a swap for some Escort wheels he was selling and money for the model. Well the model has gone missing of course as it was sent standard post. So what I want to know-can he put in a claim with paypal for a refund and will they give it to him irrespective of my side of the story and proof of posting?

In my experience yes he can. Always send things recorded now!

i gree with ryan, rory in my experince paypal will immediately take the side of the buyer and usually put a block on your account, until you agree to a full refund..your side of the story is totally ignored, you are the seller and in their eyes you are the guilty one! hope you find it different m8, but this has been my experience of them.....

Re: e-bay and/or paypal problems/issues
Even if the transaction is outside eBay they will still give him his money back-so he possibly gets the model and gets to keep his money too-completely brilliant system! Just checking the paypal policy it seems its true but only in the case of goods purchased. Since the money was sent to me as a gift/living expense like I always seek it seems I might just escape this time-we shall see.

Re: e-bay and/or paypal problems/issues
exactly rory...............no wonder some people refuse to use paypal any more, its totally one-sided against the seller, sure if a buyer does muck you about with non-payment etc, you don't even have the opportunity to leave negative feedback, but they can write whatever they like about you! totally unfair............

Agree with Billy. As you have proof of posting you can claim back from Royal Mail. I have done in the past and it is a pain in the butt, but stick with and they do pay up.
I always send everything recorded now and if anything going abroad it goes International Signed For, no less. Don't seem to get any problems that way. You watch it will go tits up now i said that

Re: e-bay and/or paypal problems/issues
Am actually now thinking of not using paypal at all. I am at a level now that can generally sell via here or the rallyforum or my facebook pages, also have a pretty good number of emails so can advie people of what I'm doing. I was only selling on ebay recently to get my paypal account in credit to pay for the Alps I bought.

Re: e-bay and/or paypal problems/issues
.
Are you 100% sure he can claim the money back.... sure he sent it as a "Gift",
I'd tell him you were putting in a claim to the postal service and he will get the amount they pay out back,
I think standard post covers you for up to £50 so make sure you claim well over that amount,
You will have a better chance of getting the full £50 claim back
If it's true that he can claim back a "Gift" payment then that is a pi55Take

Re: e-bay and/or paypal problems/issues
I think it will be OK as the money was sent as a gift. Part of me feels bad as the guy did not get the model and part of me knows its not my fault. As an aside i have suffered a few losses over the years where I sent stuff or paid for stuff and never got it so I guess it all balances out in the end.

Re: e-bay and/or paypal problems/issues
Is it possible for one individual to have multiple eBay and PayPal accounts using the same bank account / debit card / postal address, but with different usernames and email addresses?
I'd like to have separate accounts for all of my forthcoming CODE343 transactions, so that all of my purchases and sales can be kept separate from my own personal 'dealings'. I guess as long as I do not bid for my own items, then I cannot see it being a problem...
...but does anybody know how eBay and PayPal view this issue?

Re: e-bay and/or paypal problems/issues
Yes David you can. One of my friends has an account for buying and one for selling. If you need me to i will speak to him to find out more.

Thanks Chris - for answering my question, and for the offer of help.
Let me see how I get on first, and if I come unstuck I'll be sure to shout you.
Cheers again.

Re: e-bay and/or paypal problems/issues
great! here we go again!
been selling off my 1:18 ferrari collection over the last couple of weeks, just received an email from an unhappy buyer, stating the model has been painted, box is damaged, decals are in wrong place and my postage was too high! the car was mint, as was the box, and i certainly never painted it or applied/removed decals! as usual, i'm going to have to issue a full refund, who knows what condition i'll get the car back in.... nothing to stop buyers making this cr_p up just to chance their arm for a refund....!

Re: e-bay and/or paypal problems/issues
Beware of a chinese ebayer selling Barry Evo's. I bought one for very small money but the decals from one of the rear side windows was missing. When I looked back at the photo on ebay the decals were missing from the photo too. He did advertise it as new, unused and unopened. In fairness he opened it to put extra padding inside the case for the journey. Its unlikely anyone has or can make the missing rear side window decal ? He has offered a refund so I am waiting .

Has 14 negative feedback out of over 3000. A chance you take with any seller from abroad. Hong Kong guys are usually pretty good. He does have some nice and different stuff at good prices.

Re: e-bay and/or paypal problems/issues
Opened a paypal dispute against a seller the other night. Seller name was model1088, but his account has since been deleted.
Seller informtion showing up as:
The Model Shop
David Laine
Metala, Les Clos Des Sablons,
Sandy Lane, St. Sampsons
St. Sampsons, Channel Islands GY2 4RN GS
Seller had quite a few 1/18 models for sale, only 21 feedback but 100% positive. Just posting it here so no one else gets caught out. Be careful guys
