Bertie Fisher Sunstar escort 1/18 79 COI
Hi Guys,
Anyone in the group buy one of these models in the last few weeks?
I bought one and the quality is not good. I appreciate this is not a one off handbuilt piece costing several hundred € but there is a reasonable expectation when you drop 100€ that the following issues will not appear:
1. The Ford logo on the 'C' pillar should be blue not black
2. Some of the decals on the wheel arches are applied at an angle ie not straight
3. The circular flow on the top of the front wheel arch is showing the signs where the decal was cut to make the angle and then not repaired so I have "notch" marks on the top of the decal.
4. Front indicators are loose
5. The spacing and typeface looks visually incorrect.
6. roof decal is incorrectly positioned.
7. The model under the decal is full of tiny bumps or pimple at the rear flanks...
8. One of the features of this model is the opening doors and bonnet....I am getting decal lift here and they are cut too short so when the panels are closed there is an ugly white line visible.
All of these things are fixable with a little effort.
I appreciate this may be a one off but the presentation of this model would not entice me to purchase another sunstar product.
Interested in other people's experiences.
David

hi david, i didnt buy the sun star version as i have my own code 3 from many years ago but tbh mate if there are that many faults id maybe consider returning it for a replacement.. most of my sun star models are good enough quality, though ive recently bought their Bastos Ascona and there is a large dollop of paint run on the underside of one of the front wheel arches..not enough to make me return it, i''ll sort it myself, but i guess these examples show maybe a drop in quality on their part? as you say, when you're throwing £100 or more at a model, even a "middle-quality" brand, you expect better than that... where did you buy from?

Thanks for the prompt response.
I bought the model on ebay, french or UK supplier - I can go back and find it no hassle.
By the time I have potentially posted it - assuming the shop will accept it back, then thats more money wasted. I would rather fix the issues as best I can and learn my lesson.
I have no issue with the model itself but the decal application is not good.

Thats disappointing as I was going to try get one myself. I wasnt lucky enough to get a KMD.
Do you reckon its just a bad example or something affecting all the models.

No idea Brian if this impacts all of the models or if I got unlucky!
Curiously, if you look at the sunstar webpage the "Dunlop" decal is not straight on the wheel arch!
If anyone else has one I would like to understand their experiences.

Listing on ebay at the moment where they are using their own images, showing the same issue on the arches with the little cuts to make the decal conform.
Other listings using stock images where that issue is not there

David,
received the Fisher car last week from a German supplier.
Most things you listed are applicable to my model as well.
Build quality of these models has gone down for some time now, I just don't look at them at detail anymore.
Regards, Leon.

Thanks Leon,
I have repaired most of the items on mine - shouldnt have to but they are small things in any case so easy to fix.
I have repaired or replaced decals as needed and painted in the shut faces on some panels. Not perfect but better than it was.
I left some "constructive" feedback on the company's webpage - I wouldnt imagine I will get a response. The experience is damaging their brand...Pity.

I have just received my order of fisher sunstar escorts from UK supplier and I can honestly say I have I have never seen such rubbish
The supplier last been superb and is taking them back
Which means I dint have any stock
It probably better as I definately could not sell them to customers
I have photos on my phone but I've no idea how I can get them on here
Maybe I've been unlucky and just received the shite stock but can't see it tbh

I picked 1 of these up at the NEC last weekend. The seller had 3 and each 1 had the same issues mentioned by the original poster. I picked the best of a bad lot.
Hopefully a second production run will improve the quality, but if i had paid ebay prices for this model, i wouldn't have been a happy bunny
Regards
Stephen

Re: Bertie Fisher Sunstar escort 1/18 79 COI
I got mine last week and the decal placement is bad!!
Some of the decals on the arches have stress cracks
Having looked at a lot of photos they are all the same
I built one using them Spanish decals off ebay and apart
from them lifting in places (easy fix) the Spanish one is better!!
Here’s a few photos, model on the left is Sunstar mine is on the right
