Eifel Rallye Festival 2015
Who's going this year? JOB is on the entry list again, I'm out spectating.
Robert Droogmans was testing the Manta 400 he'll drive in Germany. The car's owner, Frank Jorissen, who was also testing his Ascona 400, had set up a stage at his brick factory. Droogmans had a go in the Ascona too, well sideways.
Near the end of the day, Frank asked there were any takers to sit with Droogmans in the Manta for another test run. Yes please! It was brief, but enjoyable, he hasn't lost it!
Droogmans in the Manta:

Re: Eifel Rallye Festival 2015
Really really disappointed not to be going this year but due to my wife's ongoing health issues and now the return of my dad's cancer just cant commit in advance to events at the moment.
Had a superb "baptism" last year to the Eifel Rallye Festival and thanks to James and Juha got to see the this amazing event at several great locations. Cant recommend the rallye enough to anyone who is thinking of going. The mix of great cars and drivers is something that has to be experienced and the atmosphere in Daun and on the stages is something special. You can get up close to your heros (cars and drivers) and although a lot of the cars are replicas this year the organisers have pushed for authenticity where possible and some of the drivers are more committed than others and dont necessarily do all the stages, however once you have been to this rally the stage at Race Retro and the like wont seem quite the same again! For me to have seen Sandro Munari reunited with his Monte winning Stratos would have been a dream come true.
James and Juha and anyone else going in 2015 have a great and safe rally and maybe see you in 2016

Re: Eifel Rallye Festival 2015
Thanks for your comments! Get it on your list for definite. I forgot to mention there are model and book sellers in the service park/town centre as well! What really impressed me though is that the local bars and restaurants didnt appear to hike their prices up for the event and found some brilliant places to eat and drink. Having paid for our stages passes which weren't expensive it was a bit odd to be "taxed" a euro a time for parking but I guess its a small price to pay to keep the locals on side!

Chris - every best wish to you and your loved ones. Yes I am going for the 4th year in succession so it really has something. Where else will you hear 150 very different rally cars from all eras each singing their own very distinctive tune - Conor's Porsche taking its place in the orchestra of sound.
Plans afoot to go back to San Marino in Italy in October - as a spectator so far.

Cheers guys appreciate the comments.
Just for you Manta lovers thought you might be interested in this entry as well! Looks like it could have been one of the DOT Ireland cars originally.

Re: Eifel Rallye Festival 2015
I remember looking at that one, and its two identical twins, in a sorry state 10 years ago. They're finally being used again. I think this is the one he used at the Legend Boucles de Spa in 2009-ish and which does the Moroccan historic rally each year.

I never thought I'd get to see this, but it happened, Munari in a Stratos!

As we have come to expect - really excellent photo from Juha. Good to meet your dad again Juha. Weather very mixed over the weekend which made for tricky driving conditions which in turn lead to a number of accidents and some delays on stages. That said i still enjoyed it, added a few more names to my list of autographs, got a copy of John Buffum's biography from the man himself, bought a few cheap bases from the stalls and marveled at the variety of cars and numbers of famous names from the past. I am keeping an eye out for a photo or video of us on stage 3 on full opposite lock to the left, then the same to the right and then a full 360 followed by a 180 down the middle of a field in the wet !!!
I am on the lookout for a copy of Sammy Hammils book on the Circuit of Ireland if anyone knows where there might be one.

Great pictures Juha and thanks for sharing. Weather indeed looked a bit different to last year! Would have loved to see Munari in the Stratos and at 75 years of age guess that maybe the last time he drives the car
Seen quite a lot of footage on YTube and saw the green MK1 Golf ended up on its lid again!

Stage 3, do you mean the first or the third of Saturday's loop?JOB wrote:As we have come to expect - really excellent photo from Juha. Good to meet your dad again Juha.
