Codes 1, 2, and 3 - the differences...
I found the following explanation of the differences between Codes 1, 2, and 3 on the Rally Models website, and thought it quite interesting. I hope you don't mind me reposting it here, Andy.
Code 1 - Limited Edition produced/refinished by the manufacturer (ie IXO, Trofeu, etc).
Code 2 - Limited Edition produced/refinished by a second manufacturer with IXO's, Trofeu's, etc authority.
Code 3 - As Code 2, but without IXO's, Trofeu's, etc authority.
So from my point of view with an MG Metro 6R4 diecast model, the manufacturer is IXO, and their plain white cars of 2012 are Code 1. Rally Models, 143models.com, SJModels, etc are all refinishing 'unauthorised' versions of IXO's model, so these are Code 3. However, if they were authorised by IXO (in this instance), then they would be Code 2.
Hope that makes sense - it might be obvious to some, but I'm sure that explanation will help others.

Good stuff, David, very helpful.
I expect that we, amongst many others here, are 'manufacturers' judging by the definition of Code 3.
At last I've achieved something with my life!!!! Hee hee!
Cheers, Steve
