Music Chris - that is why I have gone to Eifel for the past 3 years - throw in some porsches and lancia Stratos - absolute magic. Likewise in Spain a few weeks back we had a Stratos in front of us and one behind us and the people literally ran out of the shops in Barcelona into the streets with their iphones to capture the noise of the three cars . We were being urged to just rev the cars even while stopped.

Noise creates spectacle. Not wanting to be parochial about it but the interest in the in-car of Andrew and myself was all about the racket we were making (maybe I was making ) compared to the monotones of others. Rallying is all about the senses, feeling the ground shake under you, hearing the noise, smelling the tyres,the oil and seeing the speed and the spectacle.

as i was standing at the start of that stage in spain waiting for you guys to take off james, i can only say amen to that!! the stratos was an incredible sound, as were the rest!! happy days, one i wont forget in a hurry!!

Noise and absolutely why everyone has complained about F1 this year. They don't sound like an F1 car should sound

But yes be it the sound of a Mini, Escort, Stratos, TR8, Quattro, 6R4, Delta S4, Impreza, Escort Cosy or the navigator!!! etc... Its the noise that makes rallying what it is.

You want to try Le Mans. The technology is fantastic but the Audis, Toyotas and Porsche are really too quite. The Astons and Corvettes come past and the ground shakes
