What flights are you on ? See my early post on this thread - we might be able to split the car hire if we travel together.

Re: Rally Day Castle Coombe Sept 20th
James I am going from Dublin at 06:25 with Ryanair and then flying back to Dublin at 20:45. I plan to leave the show at around 2 pm to go to Oxford to see my sister. I then would be coming back down the M4 for Bristol. I could pick you up at the junction of the A350 and the M4 at Chippenham at 18:30-its then about 45 mins to Bristol Airport if you wanted to take the risk of not having a car yourself and if there was someone you knew could give you a lift from Castle Combe. I think it would be mad to try to get back to the circuit at that time as everyone will be leaving the circuit at 6ish and the traffic will be insane on those narrow roads.

Thanks Rory,
Probably too much of a chance. I have to be in Shannon for the rally on Sunday morning so can't afford to miss the plane.

James, I'll be over at Rally Day, back on that flight. But I will be leaving the show early to pick up "shoppers" in Bristol Centre! But if that suited for a lift back, let me know. I'm flying over Friday night.
I will be Mid Point Radio on Stage 3/6/9 Sunday, hopefully you won't need to stop and talk there!
Regards,
Bobby.

Thanks Bobby. If I am not driving I might fall into "bad company" and never make it home !!! A man that will be there and you may not recognise him will be Paul "Chalky" White - Henri Toivonens winning RAC co-driver, a really lovely man whom I had the good fortune to meet at the Neath Valley Stages rally. I believe Andy Dawson , one of the characters of British rallying is also meant to put in an appearance. Enjoy the shopping - thats one thing I can't do. See you there and thanks again James

I did a deal with him for a Coleman Thomas Motors Escort Escort and a McHale white M3 and I think the pricing was fair. I know a few others came away with some nice stuff having done deals. He had the best choice of all the model sellers. He laughed at me when I asked him if he had a Coleman Manta.

Re: Rally Day Castle Coombe Sept 20th
I didn't really know what to expect and with low expectations one is rarely disappointed. It exceeded anything I could have hoped for. For me it was meeting not only both old and new members on here but a cross section of rally people from various strands of ralling. I too took my book and for once got all those I was expecting and one I wasn't. In fact I took 4 books to be autographed - 2 of which were the McKlein Group B and Group 4 books and resorted to a wheelies bag to haul them around for the day for the appropriate opportunity to present itself - hence it was a pretty amusing sight for most who had the temerity to comment !!! My "secret" model was one built by Sean Buckley , a Coleman manx rothmans 6R4. The "action" on the course was not my "cup of tea " but meeting the likes of Paul White,Denis Biggerstaff,Nigel Rockey,Andy Dawson,Howard Davies,Tony Mason,Alister Sutherland and Terry Kaby was well worth the trip. I mention these because those are the rally people that come too but are not on any headlines. I bought a few models from PJ and both the Tony Mason and Alister Sutherland books- both duly autographed. again good to meet the forum members .

Re: Rally Day Castle Coombe Sept 20th
I had a brilliant day. I didn't even bother with the action on the track and spent the whole morning walking around the paddock. I'm glad I finally got to meet Cowley, Zeus, Hapton Caught and Nicky, and met Paul White, Phil Collins, Dave Whittock, Harri Toivonen, Alistair Sutherland, ...
Metro Model Madman Meeting.
Cowley making sure he doesn't any details of Ali Serpen's C869EUD.
Looking at JOB's impressive Made For Road book.
JOB, Cowley, and some fella in an Abarth jacket.
Markko Märtin being added to the list.
The point where Steve realised he'd been standing next to Alistair Sutherland.
Nicky driving Gary Hewitt's 6R4.

Excellent photos Juha. Two other rogues who were also there and I forgot to mention were the irrepressible Howard Davies and Xavier McCartan. Older bods on here will remember Xav's astounding 1/43 rally model collection of old. The thing that amazes me is the "time" that all the real rally legends have for fans and enthusiasts - very few primadonnas.

Re: Rally Day Castle Coombe Sept 20th
Dear All,
Am only now recovering from what was an epic Saturday of rallying nostalgia. I too didn't know quite what to expect and was blown away with the day's activities. I didn't get to see much of the on-track activities, but frankly, that didn't matter. I had such a wonderful time meeting you guys for the first time, and some older faces once more (I use the word 'older' from the point of view that I'd met CDM, Cowley, Zeus and Nicky before, not that you are 'old', you understand! ).
It was also superb meeting guys who had worked on the 6R4 during it's gestation from 'idea' to reality, those who had co-driven in 6R4s, many who had driven them and a number of fellas who had to fix them after the drivers had 'gone beyond the bounds'! What a day.
I was blown away by the reactions to my 6R4 display. It's the first time I've used my own cabinet (thanks, Chris) and I can't wait to do it all over again.
I'm still unpacking my memories and experiences from the day. Roll on 2015!
Thanks also to Juha for posting the photos. Very much appreciated and I like the captions too!!!!
Must go, have work to do!! Cheers, Steve

A few pics of Steve's excellent display.
You can stop building now, some people are trying to catch up.

Re: Rally Day Castle Coombe Sept 20th
Hi Juha,
Very many thanks for posting the pics. The display still looks like a pile-up on the M25 motorway in the photos!
In case anyone was wondering, I did spread the models out a fair bit so that the steps were covered by the rallycross 6R4s, the Lombard RAC and Colin McRae 6R4s were together and the rest of the rally cars taking up the rest of the display base, with the prototypes and the Knebworth House launch car on the turntable.
Sorry Juha, I can't stop building now, not when I've got so many projects lined up and donor cars waiting for some attention! And as a direct result of discussions on Saturday, there will be more photos coming to help me fill some gaps
Thanks again Juha and hope we have opportunity to have a proper chat some time soon.
Cheers, Steve

Hi Justin,
I've tried the link and it didn't work. It wants a sign in, which I don't have.
I'll have a watch of the video at home where I can turn the volume up - might not be appreciated in an open plan office!!
Cheers and speak soon, Steve
