Rally Day Castle Coombe Sept 20th
Looks like Rally Day at Castle Coombe could be a very good one this year on Saturday 20th September
http://www.wrc.com/en/wrc/news/august/rallyday/page/1656--12-12-.html
Top drivers scheduled to appear are Harri Toivonen, Marko Martin, Marku Alen, Bjorn Waldegaard, Dai Llewellin and Gwyndaf Evans.
Lookout for the 30th anniversary MG Metro 6R4 display of real cars Nicky Lindon is involved with this one and a model display from Steve Nottage (Hampton Caught).
I will be there selling all sorts of rally models including 6R4s!!! I am sharing a stand with John Horton so look out for our stand full of trophies John is selling off!!

Dublin to Bristol with Ryanair is currently €36 return including taxes, car hire €30-not a bad day out for that price

Re: Rally Day Castle Coombe Sept 20th
Can't wait for the event. Promises to be a GREAT day out.
Nicky has pulled out the stops and has all sorts of 6R4-related paraphenalia as well as some full size static and moving 6R4 exhibits! yum yum! There's a rally stage which the 6R4s will be sliding about on, Nicky has a prototype V62V engine on display, several of the key players in the 6R4s development (from Austin Rover, Williams Engineering and others) will be there and I'll have a display of some of my more unusual/ relevant 1/43 scale 6R4 models.
It will be a great way to celebrate the MG Metro 6R4s 30th birthday.
Hope to see you all there. Find me under the Gazebo with the prototype engine. I'll be the one with the smile and the DRM flyers!!
Cheers, Steve

Giving it serious consideration. Anyone else thinking about it - would be worth looking at sharing car rental to make the day even more cost efficient.

Re: Rally Day Castle Coombe Sept 20th
Hi Guys
As I live near Colchester I have been weighing up the options as to how I can attend this great day:
Car journey time is approx. 3.5 hours, petrol, food etc. Train to Chippenham is around 3 hrs 7mins, space is currently limited on most of the trains, and cost is around £40 and I still have to cover the 5 miles to/from the station. Flying from Stansted is a no no!
A group of us are therefore hiring a small coach to go to Castle Combe for the Rallyday . If there is enough interest from any forum members and friends/neighbours etc we have been told that a larger coach is available. The cost per person for the larger coach including entry (discount has been agreed) would be just under £50 per head return. The coach at present would be leaving from Colchester, Essex area, EARLY, as it is approx. 4.5 hours to the Circuit.
Is there any interest guys ??
Please let me know ASAP as I will need to confirm with the coach company and Castle Coombe.
Regards
David

Chris, I am sorely tempted to go- just to bring two books for Paul White to autograph. While I am not a 6R4 collector I may just have a 6R4 you don't. I will let you know if I am coming for definite one way or the other but if I do I will bring the model and you might just keep a little space somewhere in the back of your display for it as it will afford me somewhere safe to keep it for the day. l will not say what it is until I arrive - not an earth shattering model but one I have not seen elsewhere.

Hi James,
Sounds intriguing!
Do you want to drop me a PM so I can make up a label for your model in my display? It is 1/43 I assume?
Dave, glad to hear you'll be there. Look forward to chatting with you then.
Cheers, Steve

Re: Rally Day Castle Coombe Sept 20th
Guys, it would be great to meet you on the day, so please do pop along to see the 6R4 display.
I was with Mike Endean of Xtrac this morning, taking photos of the mighty Martin Schanche Xtrac Escort rallycross car in which he's running at the Brighton Speed Trials this weekend. I'll be making a 1/43 model to add to my display in due course and have plenty of detail to add, which will be neat!!
I mentioned Rally Day to him and his buddy, John Hornby, and they may well get along on the 20th too. Mike had been to Rally Day in the Xtrac in 1991, which was about the last time it was used in earnest until he fired it up last night in preparation for Brighton.
If you get a chance to speak with these lovely gents, do so, They are a mine of rallycross, hillclimbing and sprint information and Mike knows his way around the oily bits like no other, especially the transmissions!
Rally day is going to be a cracker! See you there!!!! I might have to make myself a DRM-related name badge for the day!!

Re: Rally Day Castle Coombe Sept 20th
Hi Guys, first time posting on here since last year. Hope everyone is well?
I can't say how pleased I am to see so many people on here are coming to Castle Combe for the event. It is shaping to be a great event.
As Steve has said I am co-ordinating the 30th anniversary of the 6R4. We are due to have over 20 6R4s on the day which will be a stunning sight. There will be a large majority of them doing the feature stage at lunch time, including me driving one of my great friends 6R4. You'll know which one I'm driving as I will be the slowest :-) lol
We have got David Llewellin and Harri Toivonen joining us, who drove the machines during 1986 in the British Open, as well as a couple of WRC events. On top of that, we have got people who played major roles in the 6R4 including John Davenport, David Wood, Wynne Mitchell etc from the ex Austin Rover Motorsport camp. We also have ex Williams GPE members who designed and built the prototype 6R4s aswell, and we might (fingers crossed) have a certain Patrick Head come along! previous 6R4 drivers and people who have played a part in the winning of the 6R4 are joining us too.
I will be in or around the 6R4.net gazebo on the day where Steve will be having his lovely display of 6R4 models on show, alongside a V62V prototype engine. Please do pop over and say hello, please mention this place though as I have got loads of people who are coming from various forums, without all the owners and ex team members coming on the day to chat to me.
Look forward to seeing you all on the 20th :-)
P.s rsjon I will find out if pj is attending for you
