Hi from a newbie
Hi all,
I'm Mark Kelly from Milton Keynes. Just discovered this forum by way of code 343 and South Hants Model Club at Race Retro yesterday, so thanks guys!
I'm going to be focussed largely on 1/43, with main area of interest being Group B and Pikes Peak. I've already got a few of the usual suspects from the iXO range of Group B cars, plus the Bizarre Lancia ECV2, but having seen some of the collections on here I've had my eyes well and truly opened to just what's available - amazing!
I'm partial to a bit of rallycross too, so no doubt the collection will expand outside of just the Group B and Pikes Peak cars. Think I'll need to make good use of the 'how to' sections for these though.
This could be a very dangerous forum .

Hi Mark
Welcome
I can vouch for how "dangerous" this forum can be!
What did you think of the South Hants Model Club Metro display yesterday at Race Retro? Some amazing Code 3 Metros on display and brilliant work by David and Dave on such a fabulous display, well worth the entry money alone.
Regards
David L

Hi David,
It was an amazing display, I spent ages soaking in the details. I loved the Andy Burton 306R4 in there too, and the various rallycross cars. I used to build a few plastic kits back in the day, including the Heller 1/43 Delta S4 and 205T16, but I'm going to have to learn a whole new range of skills if I'm going to start modding the iXO models.
Honestly, I'm not sure whether I found their display more inspiring or daunting? A real mix of the two I think, but we all have to start somewhere, right!

Welcome to the forum Mark.
There will be alot of people on here quite happy to empty your wallet for you
There is some very nice group B models out there. If you look up the Metro 6R4 definitive list on here you will see just how 6R4's there are and that dosen't include one off built by members.
Enjoy your stay
Chris.

Re: Hi from a newbie
Welcome to the DRM forum Mark, and many thanks for the kind words regarding the 2014 Race Retro display that myself and Dave put together - not forgetting the kind contributions of Chris, Simon and Steve which added to it. Incidentally, Chris built the Andy Burton Pug 306R4, and the rallycross cars were built by Simon and Steve.
I hope you enjoy your time here Mark, and if you have any other issues or queries then fire away as we're a friendly bunch.

Photos of the MG metro 6R4 display can be found under Race Retro 2014 thread.
I am trying to get photos of the rest of our display from the team. I will post these as soon as I get them.

Hi Donie,
You're absolutely right, there's some Irish in the family from a couple generations back. I was over there a while back and drove around the Ring of Kerry, including a run up Moll's Gap. It certainly increased the respect I have for the guys that go up there flat out!
