RACE RETRO 2014 MG Metro 6R4
MG Metro 6R4 30th Anniversary model display
A year ago I asked if Dave S (Cowley) and Dave C (Zeus) could put together a 30th Anniversary 6R4 display? I could do it, but they could do it better.
So with just a few days to go they are hopefully in the final stages of putting their display together. Thanks also to Simon(6R4), Steve (Hampton Caught) & Chris D (CDM) for lending some of their models for the display too.
The South Hants Model Auto Club display will be as usual in Hall 1 on Stand J46 looking straight into the real Group B display.
On our stand there will also be a display of Australian Motorsport, 50th Anniversary of McLaren and the whole of the 2010 Le Mans grid, plus the 30th anniversary Metro 6R4 display.
For the first time at this show I have taken an autojumble pitch in Hall 3 and will have a lot of 6R4 models along with other models and books available.
Come along and say hello and support the effort.
Don't forget the real 6R4s in Hall 1 and outside on the rally stage - other rally cars are also on display!!!!
Cheers
Chris

I was hoping to get to the show this year as it looks it's going to be a good one but other commitments take priority so sadly can't make it
To all you lads off here, have a good time and take plenty of pic's. Especially the 6R4 model display please

Re: RACE RETRO 2014 MG Metro 6R4
Looking forward to this weekend's activities, including having some of my models on display Saturday and Sunday, meeting up with David, Dave and Chris (amongst others?) and seeing (and hearing) some 6R4s in action. Oh boy!
I'll have my dear lady wife with me so I don't expect I'll be going mad at any stalls selling models or momentos!
Cheers, Steve

Doh! Between us, Simon, we've got all three days covered! I'm there on Saturday!
Hope we can catch up another time - the 2014 rallycross calendar should provide some opportunities! I'm hoping to get to most rounds, though I can't imagine I'll be at Knockhill, sadly! Too far to travel, methinks!
Enjoy yourself on your days at RR. You'll see my contributions to the display on Sunday when you're there.
All the very best, Steve

I'm sure we'll catch up sometime during the year, I hope to get to at least a couple of rounds of the Rallycross.
I will look out for your models in the display on Sunday. My contributions will be in the display as well over the weekend
Have a great day Saturday, it's a great show, especially with the live rally stage on Saturday and Sunday. I can't wait

Re: RACE RETRO 2014 MG Metro 6R4
Well what can I say about the weekend, and the immense pleasure we all had arranging the MG Metro 6R4 30th Anniversary Model Display at 2014 Race Retro! It was an absolute stunning experience, and I'm sure I can speak for Dave (Cox) as well, and our three esteemed contributors (Chris, Simon & Steve) and say that we are all still buzzing from the experience!
Chris and his South Hants Model Auto Club colleagues made us feel very welcome all weekend, and gave their full support throughout - from assisting us beforehand, to overshadowing us on setting up, to general stand behaviour and etiquette throughout the show - all topped off with banter, comradery and humour whilst we chilled with them in the evening recounting each day's events. Thank you Chris... Thank you SHMAC...
In all we managed to 'rope together' a total of 74 different examples of the MG Metro 6R4, however, we could have easily filled a third display case with what we had chosen to leave at home if the space had been allocated to us. Both Dave and myself also chose to leave one or two out just prior to the show, as space was indeed getting quite tight in there after all contributions had been received and placed in their specifically orchestrated themed groupings!
Anyway, I'll leave it at that for the moment, and leave you to enjoy some photos - enjoy...

Re: RACE RETRO 2014 MG Metro 6R4
Hats off to everyone involved in putting this together, it was a real top quality display. Though I didn't realise it at the time, I think I had a chat with Dave (Cowley) and Dave (Zeus) alongside the display - I was the one looking for HB decals for the Quattro Sport S1. If it was you guys then thanks for reigniting my enthusiasm for the model world
Anyway, enough of my ramblings, and back to watch some more video on 6R4.net!

Re: RACE RETRO 2014 MG Metro 6R4
Many thanks Chris - shame you were working mate, it would have been good to catch up once and for all mate.
Good evening Mark, and welcome to DRM. It was definitely myself and Zeus that you would have been talking to - I was the older far more wise and knowledgeable gentleman lol, and Zeus was my young 'Padawan'. He learns quickly that one - so quickly that he wrote down your email address I gather, and managed to persuade you to join the forum as well.
Hope you have many a happy time here mate, and thank you for the kind words regarding our display.

Re: RACE RETRO 2014 MG Metro 6R4
Just a quick 'thumbs up and thanks' to David and Dave, with Chris of course for facilitating such a superb display of MG machinery. I was delighted, as was our Simon, to be able to contribute to the display and I appreciate the comments I've received about the five models I had on show.
It was great to put a face to names, including Dave 'Zeus' Cox and Chris, whom I hadn't met before, and Nicky whom I briefly had chance to say 'hello' to, but sadly little more. Next year!!
The static displays were excellent across the show halls, plenty to see and buy if your wallet was bulging. Mine wasn't bulging, but still pocketed some neat tools and some decals for future model making and a very cheap Jaguar XJ220 model. Strangely, there didn't seem to be any Altaya 6R4 model anywhere in the autojumble for a reasonable price. It's as though someone had mysteriously swept them all up!!
The rally stage was worthy of note. Some of the roads on site were used as a rally stage with rally cars of various makes, models and ages whizzing around the Park making superb pops and bangs with occasional wastegate warbles. Lovely! 'Highlight' was definitely the Lancia Delta Integrale losing it and sliding sideways towards me before spinning 180 degrees and crunching lightly against the barriers - missed me by about 12 feet!
At one point there were three Quattros, two 6R4s, the Lancia, some Minis and other rally cars on the stage at the same time. That's not somethng you see often! A great event, and I was thrilled to be part of it. Thanks guys!
Cheers, Steve

Guilty as charged I shall email you in a couple of days regarding the decals. Thanks for the compliments everyone makes the effort worthwhile & everyone else who helped put on the display.

Re: RACE RETRO 2014 MG Metro 6R4
Well what can I say? You had to be there to believe it all.
The 30th Anniversary MG Metro 6R4 display was spot on. The effort WAS worth it. A big thanks to Dave S and Dave C who led the way and to Simon, Steve and Chris who supplied other models to support the effort. The display was way better than the real car 6R4 display!!
I did say to them before the event that they would be taken aback by the response to their display. They were, but they handled it very well they just never stopped chatting with interested people all day for 3 days.
It was also good to meet up with and chat to many forum members most we only knew buy their forum name before.
I heard a lot of very good reports about the SHMAC displays every day, including from the show organisers. Many celebrities called by as well, Phil Short, Dave Richards, Dave Appelby, David Llewellin and a few other Daves I can’t remember!!! (It became a running carrot joke).
Whilst the model display went well I was in the autojumble sharing a stand with John Horton. I had not jumbled this show before and had a good show clearing out more books and models.
But the highlight for some was the trip out with Jeff Williamson in his Clubman’s spec 6R4 on the rally stage. None of us had ever been in a 6R4 before and it really was a fantastic experience, something we will never forget. Dave C was in tears as he crossed the line as a boyhood dream had been realised and will Simon ever stop smiling? Thanks Jeff.
Finally a big thanks to everyone who made it happen and to all those that enjoyed the display at Race Retro or here on the forum.

Re: RACE RETRO 2014 MG Metro 6R4
Hi Mark,
Excellent shots.... I was a little bit further from the Lancia's resting place the other side of it, so it swept past me spinning around. I've got a shot of the car mid-spin coming off the road and a couple with it resting against the barrier. I'm rubbish at getting piccies on the Forum, so perhaps I'll email them to one of the fellas and see if they can sort them.
By the way, Mark, I was difficult to miss, wearing a very bright green ski jacket! I'll see what I can do!!!
Cheers, Steve
