Re: Mal's Motorsport Emporium
Yes, a very busy bunny you've been..... and that's without taking account of the touring cars, Mal! Hint!
From your (clearly wide) experience with kits, which manufacturers would you recommend to buy and to avoid?
Cheers, Steve

Thankyou, was on the tip of my tongue but old age and debauchery was having an effect.Zeus wrote:Nice builds Mal, I think the Celica's are Scala 43
Thanks guys. The individual Celica is the latest build, the others are older builds. Just someone asked for me to put up photos of them a while ago.
Best kits in order, if you don't mind fiddly, BBR, Scala 43, Arena, Renaissance, Racing 43, Meri, the old Provence Moulage/Starter, then you start getting into Jemmpy etc. There are other brands that would fit into the list but are not as common such as Mini Racing, SMTS, Heco, CJM. Also, some are very basic even in the brands and just because one is resin and one is metal, does not mean one is better. If you are wanting to start out, the old Provence Moulage kits are cheap and some of the Racing 43 stuff is. Maybe when buying, look at after market decals as some of the older kit's decals can be all but useless.

Re: Mal's Motorsport Emporium
Hi Mal,
Thanks for your post. Very helpful info there. I have two or three Jemmpy kits to build and having built one already, found them to be very good to work with once I'd tidied it up a bit which is normal for any kit, resin or metal.
I'm now intrigued to know how much better a BBR or Scala 43 kit can be than the Jemmpy one! Oooer! If either company make or made a Rover/ MG/ Austin or Triumph rally or race car, I'll be a happy (and intrigued) bunny!
Thanks again, Mal. Cheers, Steve

Re: Mal's Motorsport Emporium
My feedback is remarkedly similar to Mals. Ive built Starter and Provence Moulage kits and found them good but decals are a bit delicate 10 years+ on from when they ceased manufacturing these. Racing43 do nice kits which build good models. Dont like Provence Miniature - even for a recent release i found the decals super fragile. Mini Racing i like a lot and whilst not the cheapest, are straight forward builds with plenty of detail and good casting. If it wasnt for the fact they make models nobody else makes i wouldnt touch tip top kits with a 10ft bargepole - a nightmare to make. I have a renaissence kit which i am dreading picking up because of the fiddly bits and fat finger syndrome. Jemmpy are pretty straight forward. Never built a tron kit but i do have unbuilt arena, smts, meri kits and scala43 kits which look nice quality in their boxes. Grand prix racing models are reasonable but casting details arent as accurate as more recent kits. Never built a bbr kit but they are meant to be very good. And finally, whilst i have a number of k&r replica kits, proportions can be a bit hit and miss. Hope this helps.

Can't remember the kit maker. Small box, not so good white metal
Same brand

The Escort is a 1/24 Revell (old Esci) kit. Decals from Ragged Edge Design. Car as it ran in 1980(?) in the Southern Cross rally here in Australia. Car is official Ford Australia entry. The team had a few cars and converted one to LHD for Waldegard.
Here are some more 1/24 kit builds.
Old esci kit with a renaissance trans kit
Racing 43 / Big - metal oob
Hasegawa with modified studio 27 decals
Tamiya kit - modifed
oob Hasegawa kit, door plates have yellowed
