Re: CAMEL 6R4 COLOUR?
Good evening Colin, and welcome to the forum!
I'm sure Peter (above) has more than likely given you some very sound advice, but the best thing to do to make sure, would be to send a PM to a nice member on here called Vitor. This is a link to his profile > http://rallymodelforum.forumotion.co.uk/u29
I am assuming that you are planning to build a Camel liveried 6R4, and that is why you are asking the above questions? I am also assuming that you have acquired some Camel 6R4 decals? For your information, Vitor is the man who produced the decals that have been advertised on ebay recently, and has already done the research into the paint code, and built models for certain members. If I remember rightly, he looked at the instructions for painting the Tamiya plastic kit of the Camel sponsored Lotus F1 car - and that is where he got the paint codes from.
Regarding removing the windows of IXO / Altaya 6R4s, it is quite easy really although very occasionally they can break. The easiest way that I have found is to pop the windscreen in by gently pressing on it from the outside, and almost trying to slowly lift it away from where the rear view mirror is located, and the same method can be used on the rear screen. Occasionally the tabs might break off a little, but you should be able to re-use them without any grief. To remove the side windows, I slide a blade or the tip of a thin screwdriver through the front or rear screen aperture, between the plastic tab and the underside of the roof, and then gently try and easy each window away one at a time. Same again, occasionally you may well snap off a tab or part of a tab, but they should be fine for re-affixing when the time is right.
I hope that helps, but with practice I am sure you will have it down to a fine art. Good luck Colin, and please do keep us posted on youir progress.

Re: CAMEL 6R4 COLOUR?
I am building this model at the moment and on the old forum Vitor said that he used the Lotus F1 Camel Yellow from Zero Paints, that is what I used for mine. This is available on the hiroboy website www.hiroboy.com

Thanks David.I ordered a set of Camel decals off Victor last night and I also ordered a Altaya Pond 1985 donor car from ebay as well. But don't expect me to be giving updates soon! The decals and Pond Metro will probably still be lying in a cupboard this time next year!I have a FINA BMW half stripped ready to be turned into the Bolshikh brothers car.I started this project 2 months ago but can never get the time to get it finished.

No worries at all Colin - I'm more than happy to help when I can!
Don't apologise about the fact you're not likely to have any progress to show us for a while yet - welcome to the club mate!

Re: CAMEL 6R4 COLOUR?
Hello
I have done 2 models with diferent yellows: in the back camel yellow from hiroboy, in the front a less darker yellow from Revell paints. The opinions are diferent so i think the final choise will be yours :-)
I was thinking of building the Per Ecklund Metro, but i only have these 2 shoots from a video:

Re: CAMEL 6R4 COLOUR?
Is it ok to use the Tamiya TS34 Spray paint on an atalya 6R4 model? As I noticed the following on a site as I was just looking at buying a couple of cans.
The Tamiya TS-34 Camel Yellow Scray Paint is a synthetic lacquer which can be used to paint plastic model kits
Any help would be appreciated

Re: CAMEL 6R4 COLOUR?
I'm sure it will be fine Nicky, as all it says is that it "...can be used to paint plastic model kits" meaning that it won't effect the plastic when you spray it. Well, that's how I read it anyway.....
I would however still remove all of the plastic elements from the shell before you spray it - but that's only my 2 pence worth of course.
Have you already stripped your shell back to bare metal Nicky?

Re: CAMEL 6R4 COLOUR?
Im sure Ill find out when I spray it lol Yeah I will be removing all of the plastic parts from the shell, always do and spray them seperately. I do have a shell stripped back to bare metal, its been sat in the garage for months so will get some spray cans tomorrow from modelzone and then prime the model. On a yellow model would you use grey or white primer?
Re: CAMEL 6R4 COLOUR?
White primer would save yellow paint. If you don`t have it , grey will work as well.

Cheers vitor, will order the decals and wheels through ebay later
Re: CAMEL 6R4 COLOUR?
Just orderd the paint on ebay, modelzone dont have it in stock No problem though, I need to do 2 coats of primer anyway which I might do one in abit with the weather being so nice and warm here at the moment. By the time the yellow paint arrives it will be ready for painting
Ill take some picutres of my progress, if the model turns out ok in the end, then I will put pics up of the cars progress

Re: CAMEL 6R4 COLOUR?
Good news Nicky, and I'm looking forward to seeing the end result mate. Just take your time and I'm sure it'll look spot on.
For anyone else seeing this, and wanting decals and wheels - here is Vitor's ebay listing!

Re: CAMEL 6R4 COLOUR?
Cheers mate, hopefully it will look quite good, but I will take my time and remember CDM's tips he gave me at race retro. I might just get all my spare 6R4's stripped down today to the bare metal and then if the weather stays like it is get some more sprayed up.
Re: CAMEL 6R4 COLOUR?
Don't talk to me about stripping models mate - I have a good couple of dozen to do here! But I get your point about batching them all together.

Nicky, Chris,
Can you share any of the tips with the rest of us? If there had been a 'lookingly longingly and slightly forlornly' smiley, I'd have used that!
I was thinking about Camel yellow paint this morning as I saw a bright yellow Renault Megane coupe in traffic. Looks to be a very similar colour to the Camel 6R4 and certainly closer than the Camel Trophy paint I bought through ebay last week! I'll be able to use that when I build my 1/43 scale Range Rover kit and convert that to Camel Trophy spec.
