Re: Richard Burns
Trofeu brought out a Group N 1995 Safari Impreza WRX in 2019. This is fairly difficult to find allready

Re: Richard Burns
1996 was a Breakthrough year, the first outright win on a APRC round, Rally New Zealand against strong competition. HPI really excelled on this, the Rothmans logos arent HPI but complete the look. Hard to find in Europe easier to source overseas & you have to gamble on potential import duty.

The final general release for the moment is the Ixo 1998 Ralliart Champions meeting car. Available as a standard Ixo issue & as a Ixo Japanese importers edition.

Re: Richard Burns
One of the first personal code 3 models. Safari 94 Impreza WRX RA. Based on a Trofeu Njiru car with Racing 43 decals. I could do it better but its a keeper for sure.

Re: Richard Burns
No 1995 code 3 yet but made up for it with 3 1996 cars. Ok they are based on the Altaya casting but they are cheaper than the HPI cars. First up Argentina, was a nice one to do. Had a set of Virages decals to do the Makinen Safari car but I got disracted. May have to get another set to do that one day

Re: Richard Burns
Second 1996 code 3 was the Australia car. This was a real pain. I almost threw it in the bin a few times. Still not happy with it. But learnt a load of new things building it, not just swear words

Re: Richard Burns
In chronologic event order the last 1996 car is the Catalunya car. Happy with this as it was bare shell & I painted it all including masking the whole car to do the front bumper. Nice challenge.

Lets go to 1997. Another of my early ventures into code 3 building. Big Safari fan so was a no brainer to make this.

One that would stand out in the cabinet... if I had it on display. Rally Australia looked great in the Winfield colours

Re: Richard Burns
The Swedish Rally is allways a good event for spectators. I made this with Ixo wheels, a Racing 43 decal sheet, Altaya partwork base, flat roof vent made from a Hot wheels blister card & event logos for a Escort WRC. The final result is great though.

Re: Richard Burns
Fairly easy conversion, simply source a Makinen Catalunya 98 car & apply the different logo's from the Microspeed sheet

Re: Richard Burns
The latest conversion in my collection. But as we are doing it in chronologic event order its up next. Simply get a Argentina 98 car & convert, but it want that easy. Then you gotta find Acropolis decals, only took 5 years to find those.

Re: Richard Burns
This Finland car turn out much better than expected. I messed up removing the decals so had to paint all the red. then the Mitsubishi logos were from Microspeed & the event logos from a Seat sheet

Re: Richard Burns
Another that looked simple, but wasnt. The easy bit was swapping the chassis with the 97 GB car. Luckily there were multiple sets of these Sanremo decals available at the time

Re: Richard Burns
Final 98 car I have completed at the moment is the Australia car. Looked like a simple conversion but trying to remove the door squares to put the blanks on the rest decided to peel off, so I stripped it down to plain red & applyed the full Microspeed sheet. Well happy with this. The challenge was worth it.

Along with the Monte Carlo cars at the same time I bought a Racing 43 Safari decal set. Luckily at the time base models were easy to source

Re: Richard Burns
Ok I could have bought the HPI finland car, but it would have looked out of place. So I made this with some Peugeot 206 decals sourced on ebay

One I really enjoyed doing. Rally China, the only time Richard drove a Impreza WRC with full tobacco livery. Decals from Virages & event logos from a CB Com Toyota
