Toyota Rally Expert wanted

I have always assumed that the Toyota rallied by Per Eklund on the 1985 Circuit of Ireland was a Supra but the rear window setup does not correspond with any of the rally Supras on the market. Any chance that it was actually a Celica XX 2000 GT Twin Cam 24 ?

It was a xx 2800GT the 2000GT as far as I know has the same body-shape, but the engines were different 1G-GEU for the 2000GT & 5M-GEU for the 2800GT. Peter(speedy may know more due to where he works)

Thanks for that. The forum triumphs again !!! I am trying to buy the one with the small engine on ebay so I will keep the bonnet locked if I get it.

I saw the car on the Manx and its listed in the programme as a Supra, the least suitable rally car imaginable at the time.

I vaguely remember them saying it was an ex BTC car. Whether it was the actual one I dont know.

Stangely I was at the Bath MC Christmas Quiz last night and was chatting with Dave Whittock the navigator of this Supra.

Along with two colleagues we scooped first place in the quiz!!

It was indeed CD, the very same car

It was knows as a Supra in Ireland and the UK. It was  2.8i and brought in to tackle the Rover Vittesse in Grp A. The Corolla Twin Cam had dominated Grp A in 1984 but did not have the legs to beat the Rover. It did reasonably well and sounded amazing but not as much as the Rover V8.
