Goodwood 2015
On way home from Goodwood 2015. Some beautiful old cars added a few more illustrious names to my autograph book and weather was kind. Rally stage was like a ghost town - skoda not there so nothing up there apart from the rally cars. Exhibitors very good but books and models disappointing

James
I have only missed four GFS two of those were last year and this year. It is a fantastic event but I needed a break to refresh the interest. As James eluded to GFS has changed a lot over the year.
The autojumble is the most obvious its noiw all high end vintage attire, a few of the big books traders, RM Toys binning out loads of cheap stuff. I was told that it costs £3000 this year for a for a pretty small autojumble pitch. You would have to shift a serious amount of stuff to get that back and then add in all your other overheaded costs.
Fortunately for everyone there the weather has been very good Thurs, Fri and today. Sunday not looking good at the moment. GFS in the rain is not fun, I have done a few of them!!
GFS as a whole is fantastic experience there is something for everyone. You can barely cover it all in a day. The cars brought in especially each year are iconic in there form of motorsport. If you have not heard a modern F1 car thats an experience and you can get closer to them albeit it last years cars (Eccelstone Rule - no testing of current F1 cars outside of official test sessions) than at a GP.
As James says the rally stage flatteres to deceive. Sadly there are few of our old rally drivers around. Mikkola, Blomquist, Ragnotti, Rohrl, Aaltonen, McRae, Brookes are often around. But they are always around. Clearly the cars can only be the ones that get invited and these are often the same every year too. Acess to the rally cars and drivers is very good though.
I might give it a few more years break yet...
Cheers
Chris

I tossed up between Goodwood and Ypres. Went back to Ypres - great rally, but the luck of the Irish ran out as you know. I also made my annual visit to Domino in Westouter. Has anyone been there? It's on a 200 metre street between France and Belgium and everything seems to be tax free - including the models and decals etc. Every shop sells liquor and cigarettes including Domino. They also make Belkit models. They also had a shop in the square in Ypres which seemed to almost sell out by Saturday night........... not just to me........ But I need to get to Goodwood sometime....
