British Rallycross Championship Round 1: Croft 15th March 2015
Wondering if any other rallycross fanatics or indeed any first-time rallycross spectators are heading to North Yorkshire for the opening round of the 2015 Championship?
I'm going to be there, though not exhibiting a model display this time. That said, I will be showing a recent build to the full-size car's owner: I've completed the Porsche 911 Turbo of Barry Stewart - he hasn't seen the model yet but will be in for a very pleasant surprise.
Would be great to meet up with some DRM'ers there, including those from the frozen north . I'll be watching the on-track activities and milling around the Retro Rallycross Arena. There's an ever-increasing variety of cars competing, including several that are new to the series.
The Championship fininshes in October back at Croft and I'm anticipating, by then, to have built most (if not all) of the retro rallycross cars plus some of the Supercars too. If so, I'll have a full display up as I had this last October.
Hope to see you there - give us a shout if you can make it. Details here: http://www.croftcircuit.co.uk/racing/brit-rallycross
Cheers, Steve

Any sight of an entry list? I know Mark Flaherty is doing the BRC this year but is missing Croft as he's doing a rally/race in event in the Balearics that weekend!

Note the absence of Rob Gibson's MG Metro 6R4!...
...apparently, he's still waiting for new camshafts!

Blimey! That's a blow! Didn't know about that, David.
Am glad to see Lance and Ray's names on the entry list since yesterday lunchtime, when I texted Lance asking why he wasn't going to be there!!
To more-fully answer Chris' question, here is the provisional entry list of competitors for Croft on the 15th. There's a healthy list of 11 good quality Supercars! http://www.rallycrossrx.co.uk/assets/img/uploads/CROFT-ENTRY-LIST-Rnd-1.pdf The Supernations looks VERY healthy too and more can join the entry list before the event itself.
Mark Flaherty is absent only due to having a rally to complete in somewhere warm and dry, much like Croft really! but will be competing in the rest of the season's rounds. Come on Chris, you can make it!!!!!
Cheers, Steve

Mark,
Are you spectating or 'on duty'?
Drop me a PM with your mobile and I'll do the same so we can meet up. Will be good to put a face to the name after all these years!
All the very best, Steve

Great shots, Mark.
I'd love to know the time gap between the two photos!!
Good to see Kevin getting stuck in himself.
Bet it won't look quite like that in 24 hours time, though!!!!
Game on, warm clothes and water proofs on, and away we go! Yeehah!

Re: British Rallycross Championship Round 1: Croft 15th March 2015
Well, had a great day at Croft today. Spent over 9 hours in the car but was well worth it.
The racing was very good, met Mark (Lowe) and Steve Beresford (soon to be a member here) there, caught up with several drivers, Shirley and Rob Gibson and the retro rallycross family and hatched a cunning plan!
Having made a model of Ray Morgan's Ford Escort Mk3 with the Gartrac body it on it, which makes it look near identical to the Gartrac G3 Escort as used by Martin Schanche, John Welch, John Smith, Barry Squibb and several others, I thought it would make sense to make another and have the body cast in resin so further versions can be made, as per the list here and several others of course.
Whilst at Croft, seeing the Mini Clubman of Stuart Bowes competing for the first time and using the same moulds front and rear as Lance Foster and Ian Biagi, it occurred to me to make a moulding of the Mini too, so that several wide-bodies Minis can be produced.
Watch this space. Or this forum, anyway, to be more accurate!
Cheers, Steve

Re: British Rallycross Championship Round 1: Croft 15th March 2015
Excellent Mark, thank you! Look forward to that.
I can confirm that Kevin Proctor's Fiesta didn't look like the above photo after the meeting yesterday. The transfers on the front of the car were in tatters... amongst other 'modifications'!
Opinions on Julian Godfrey's new colour scheme? I took some photos of it as he was loading into the lorry. The colour is all 'wrap' and that's NOT cockney rhyming slang... though the use of pink and green is 'unusual', or being generous 'distinctive', but given he hasn't had the outright performance to win in a straight line, I wonder why he's added extra weight (albeit not much) to his car!?

Haven't seen any shots from Croft yet, but there is a picture on the link of the car looking muddy at Lydden for the Top Gear item.
Cheers, Steve
