Ford Sierra Cosworth 1/18, 1988 Rally Portugal, #15 Carlos Sainz
Hi guys!
starting a new project which this time I would like to share the wip and get your suggestions...
the model I would like to replicate is the Ford Sierra Cosworth in 1/18 scale driven by Spannish matador Carlos Sainz in 1988 Rally Portugal.
I am using an AA Sierra Cosworth as the base model and will be doing the paint job+decals+clear coat and re-assembly.
here below are some photos of the model, original car and my wip.
suggestions and comments are highly welcomed!
SMOKING KILLS!!!
Original car in action in 1988 Rally Portugal
*thanks to Dave (zeus) helping me out with reference photos
Base model for the custom build, AA 1/18
trying on the new shoes, by Uli Nowak...
the Uli wheels are 5 nuts while the original wheels has 4 nuts... I can try to change it to 4 but the Uli wheels are so good to ruin so I am not so sure if I would like to convert them
primed!
and first painted into white
then the famous fluorescent red painted...
thats it for the time being.
I will try to apply the decals this week and will go on with the clear coat. then will reassemble the model...
awaiting for your suggestions and comments guys!

yes, I did use Tamiya paint sprays for this project.
they are TS series. Primer + white and fluorescent red

cheers mate!
those masking operations are killing me taking hours to fit them properly in order to have a good result!
and after the paint, taking them off is the moment of truth
hahaha

Very true, that is the bit I don't like doing Well your results are excellent so the hours spent masking are worth it

Re: Ford Sierra Cosworth 1/18, 1988 Rally Portugal, #15 Carlos Sainz
so, today's job was to apply the decals...
SMOKING KILLS!!!
I will wait for a day or two to let the decals settle and then will apply the clear coat.
after clear coat there comes the silver lines, painting the window and bumper rubbers in black. and have to paint and fit the new Uli nowak RS wheels
and then hopefully next weekend I can re-assemble the car...
let me know what u guys think so far...

Omer, once again great job from your skillful hands! It seems you have enough experience on flourescent red
Changing the rim nuts may have some problems, you should redrill 16 new holes by hand on the rims and there is probability of nonsimetrical holes. Of course you know what to do..
The last word I can say that "perfect", and I have to find a new word better than "perfect" till you finish this project mate..

thank you Halil!
yeah I had enough experience on Fluorescent Red. but still have some more projects that I will soon be using
reg the wheels, you are right. it's a bit hard to change it to 4 nuts but I will see while re-assembling the car...
