Donington Park Toy & Collectors Fair - Sunday 27 January 2013
I've been out all day, so haven't really had much time to catch up with the latest topics and posts on the forum, so will catch up tomorrow. I did see your drinks cabinet though Steve - absolutely stunning, and I am very jealous!
However, I will be out at the 500 stall Donington Park Toy & Collectors Fair for most of the day tomorrow - trying to pick up some 1/43 rally model bargains amongst the plastic kits, slot cars, Action Men, etc.
Is anybody else thinking of going? It takes place at the Exhibition Centre between 10.30-3.30...

Keep an eye on their calendar page Simon, as Barry Potter Fairs organises shows all over the country - but none in Ireland or Northern Ireland, sorry Paul!?..Simon6R4 wrote:Looks like a great fair, shame we never have anything like this in my neck of the woods

HI David,
Thanks for posting re the model fair. The same company host a fair on my door step, at Sandown Park, but the next one there is on 16th Feb which I can't make!
I've been a few times over the years. So easy to spot things of interest going around then forget where they are once I've decided what I want! Doh!!
They haven't changed their website pictures for some years and it's always made me smirk when looking at the large pictiure at the bottom of the Sandown Park page - all of the people there are older gentlemen!
Cheers, and enjoy the foraging, David. Steve

LIVE REPORT from your man on the spot at Donington!
I've been here since 8.30 as I paid £10 to get in two hours before the show opened! I've now retired to the car to contemplate my next circuit of the stalls, despite walking around them four times already!
There seems to be a fairly even split between diecast, trains, plastic kits, etc mixed in with a few general toy stands selling Action Man, Star Wars, etc collectables.
There is nobody doing any rally Code 3 models or decals which is a shame - maybe I'm expecting too much from a show like this? There is however the usual array of diecasts, for the usual array of prices too! £15 for partwork Finnish / WHSmith Champion Rally Car releases being an example!
I will report back later with news of any acquisitions!

David, i was there today. If i had known you was going we could have met up.
Picked up the Corgi Clark Escort and the Cleland Cavalier plus another Sunstar Escort from the grumpy scottish bloke on the back wall.
I didn't think it was too busy. I've known it to have more punters in years gone by but some sellers were knocking quite abit off if you asked.
Long day with my detours on the way there and on the way back, but worth it.
NEC Birmingham in 2weeks.
Simon, the nearest toyfairs to you are either Norwich or Huntingdon i think. Worth a ride out even if you come back empty handed.
Steve, i go to Sandown quite regular but like you i can not make the next one.

By coincidence I saw some footage of this show on tele today. It looks a bit bigger than the toy fair I usually go to, but the stuff remains the same.

Bl@@dy hel Chris - you could have treated me to a £2 cup of tea if I'd have known! I tell you something, at that price I was going to make sure that I got every last little bit of flavour out of the tea bag, use plenty of sugar when I don't even take it, and have more milk than I really needed! Wasn't the nicest, but it was wet and warm!
Next time for sure Chris, although I'm not sure I'll be at the NEC yet.
All I picked up was a Roxley Models 1/48 scale white metal high roofed Leyland Freight Rover van for half price, and three 1985 RAC Pond 6R4 base models at a good price as well. There were no other 6R4s apart from a few of the Wilson 1986 1000 Lakes models, but there's no way I was paying £15 for them!
If I'd have known a little bit more about diecasts than just 6R4s, I am sure I could have made a profit on a few models... Vitesse silver Escort WRC of ??????? for £11, Solido Pikes Peak 205T16 of Vatanen for £4, Citroen tent & toolchests £10, etc... ...or maybe I'd have been stuck with them!

Me and my mate stopped at the services before we headed off to Coventry and had a proper coffee in Costa Most expensive part of the day.
Saw the Citroen tent and toolchest myself. Nearly bought a set but didn't know myself how much they sell for. He also had the mechanic figures at a tenner a set so £20 for the lot seamed a little steep or i'm a tight B@#*@+d

I text Andy from the show on Saturday morning Chris, just to ask him about the tents, tool chests & figures. I'd talk to him if you want a set mate as the car and the tools are included with his set for a little bit extra.
That was the Frenchman selling them wasn't it? I bought three 1985 RAC Pond 6R4 base models from him!
