Re: New Irish Models
Did you see he's posted details on the 1/43 Rally Models Facebook group James? Apparently he's only making 15 of them (12 with spotlights)...
Hope everyone can see the above image, even non Facebookers?

Re: New Irish Models
Price is 55 sterling incl post.
His contact details are kuchar20@interia.pl
I joined facebook to get older rally photos and I got to talking with this guy Piotr(Peter) and he asked if I was Liam O'Callaghans navigator as he will be doing the 96 COI ST205 in 2-3 weeks. For the youngsters on here - this is the car that Trofeu did a 96 Ypres version of. Liam sold the car to Poland or so I thought but it turns out that a guy called Cezary Fuchs campaigned it for a number of years in Eastern Europe. Peter did send me a photo but its one of the EWRC.CZ photos. He ran it out there with M200 TTE plates on it.

Sorry - my mistake - in fact wishful thinking - its the Circuit of Ireland car he is doing. Wouldn't mind a Lakes version - the famous "secret of the gap" and one of the titanic battles I had the rare privilege of being involved with against the famous Bertie Fisher.JOB wrote:Anyone know anything about Piotr Kucharczyk . Re: New Irish Models
The mention of Liam O'Callaghan got me thinking about the ST185 and our ill fated trip to Omloop Van Vlaanderen in 1995. Just found a photo on picasweb from a guy called Stiijn Descheemaeker possibly Frank Descheemaeker of the car in action. I only have one other of the team on the ramp so can anyone tell me how I can contact this guy through picasweb or do any of our Belgian members have a contact for him or for other photographers about in 1995? All leads gladly accepted/followed.
On foot of our little discussion here our friend Piotr is impressed with the level of orders received and is now considering entering the bearpit that is 1/43 models of Irish rally cars. I did not mean for it to turn out this way as there are already enough builders out there.

Re: New Irish Models
Manx 1996 Frank Meagher Ford Escort Cosworth
In 1996 our marshalling team went over to timekeep on this event. We were doing the Arrival, Start, Flying Finish and Stop line control points. For the Maughuld stage in the NW of the Island I was down to do the start with Paul S. Paul was on the flag, I was on the clocks.
I remember the stage was run in the dark and the start was in between two high banks. There was little in the way of extra lighting except our headlight and a light working off a generator.
In those days the starts were counted down by hand, so it would be 20secs……10secs…..5 – 4 – 3 – 2 – 1 - GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! With left and right hand drive cars you had to do this with either hand. When you are timing in the dark you don’t tend to notice the spectators, but I can remember hearing a couple of lads talking on the bank behind us. ‘ I bet you can’t do that count down like him....I can…yes but that chap is doing it with both hands…!!’ Try it yourself – that’s counting down!!. To be honest not something I had really thought about.
We brought Frank Meagher up to the line in his Escort Cosworth. Paul was the on n/s by the driver with the flag, thumb holding the bottom corner on the side of the bonnet, checking for a jump start. I was on the o/s dealing with the navigator. 20 secs……10 secs (at this point Frank turned on the anti lag, pop pop bang bang, flames out of the exhaust – the car was crackling) 5secs, 4 secs (every second Frank blipped the throttle and in the dark all I could see was a flame from the exhaust – right by my leg!!) 3 - 2 - 1…GO!!! Jees each second the noise got louder and louder, the flame got bigger and off he went. Paul did your hear any of that count down? No I just jumped out of the way when it moved. Great times…
Earlier in 1996 we had entered the Historic Circuit of Ireland (finishing 1st in class - but that is another story) and Frank Meagher was the winner of the main rally as well.
Cheers
Chris

Re: New Irish Models
Great story Chris. Was almost like being there. Theres a lot to be said about the technology in todays cars. Cars were simpler back then, and for me, something has been lost from the sport that i dont think will ever come back.
