Re: Irish cars from the 80's
Biocel Manta was Luke McCarthy here in Cork. AJ Keating had that car before Luke and I have been collecting photos to get a model done. However the Keatings Bakery logo on the bonnet has me foxed so far.
On the topic of Mantas I would love to see the BT Pentti Airikkala Manta 400 done. I have just a handful of photos.

Finlay? Lyons? Boyd?Speedy wrote:Sunbeam

Finlay's looked like a HFH a car, would be nice to build them both at once.
I've been thinking about the John Coyne car as I have good pics for it and he used it in Belgium.

The actual car is currently being restored. I was told about 2 years back that a modelmaker was about to make a run of Coyne Sunbeams- still we live in hope.

Connie Smith's.... WRI is long over due
Coyne & Lyons Sunbeam + Connolly Manta would be on my list to have,

Re: Irish cars from the 80's
That's not going to stop me, mine will be a different event anyway, and built in a very limited run of low quality anyway.JOB wrote:Juha wrote:

Not an Irish driver but I'd like a Mark Lovell Zanussi West Cork 85 Escort Mk3 RS Turbo

Re: Irish cars from the 80's
I "borrowed" these pics on the web, they're not mine:
John Coyne / Christy Farell, 1983 Haspengouw Rally
Derek Boyd / David (?) Booth, 1981 Haspengouw Rally
1981 was nice year regarding foreign entries as it also saw Chris Lord in his Sunbeam, Fisher, O'Brien, Rutherford and Hogdson in MK2's, Buffum in a TR7 and McRae seeded at 1 in a white Ascona 400.

Re: Irish cars from the 80's
Thanks James, can never remember that it was Luke that had the Biocel car
Juha, I'll take a Coyne and DB Sunbeam. I'll be talking to Dereks daughter on Saturday I'll get her to check if there's any other photos of the car from the event in 1981 and who was sitting with DB
Heard about the discovery of the Coyne Sunbeam recently, lying in a shed and owner not 100% sure of what he had apparently
Now who mentioned Connie Smith, need a good rear end shot for decals??

It might run and run but it will give the model builders an idea of what we want them to build

The entry list says D.Booth, I'm pretty sure it's David. Rear shots or pics from other rallies would be nice as I can't identify everything on the car. I reckon they're local Belgian sponsors so I'll have to borrow a few event program booklets. The Coyne Sunbeam should be OK, although I'm starting to doubt if my spare Sunbeams have the big headlights.
And don't get too excited, it won't be ready next month.

Thanks Colin, it's one of my all time favorite photos that I have taken, Castle Single Stage back late 80's early 90's I think, got left off in the stage with some people I knew, sat on a gate pier and waited for the action, Connie broke the rear wheel in that wee slide and I think he was still fastest on the run despite the lack of grip on the wet roads

I'll put them down for January delivery so
Re: Irish cars from the 80's
The yellow/red one?
It wouldn't fit in my collection but it does look great in those colours.

Re: Irish cars from the 80's
Any colour photosout there of the Eamonn McAleenan Escort or Starlet. If I could get enough pics I would get models of both built. Shots of the rear of both cars are particularly scarce - nothing new there I suppose.
