Race Retro 2013
Seven and a bit weeks to Race Retro 2013 so time to start planning.
Got accommodation sorted for it hopefully and plan on doing all 3 days this year, normally only do the Friday and Saturday. Hopefully this year might top 2012 when I got the chance of two runs on the live action stage in two Mk2 Escorts.......bringing my own helmet this year just in case
Will we try and organise a meet up one of the days this year??

Re: Race Retro 2013
Hi Donie
The event takes place at the National Agriculture Centre at Stoneleigh, just outside Coventry. It's a smallish show but is geared towards old racing, rallying, karting and motorbike fans and competitors.

Will be there again probably just for the Saturday as it's one ofthe must do events of the year for me even though I've spent progressivly less on memorabilia over the years! Looking forward to finding out what cars will be on the stage this year.

Re: Race Retro 2013
I am definately coming again this year. Might be doing the saturday and sunday but depends if I dont get to see and do everything I want on the saturday.
All being well, I am going to be in the passenger seat with Aled Williams in his 6R4. This is the ex Colin McRae car which was used as course car on the McRae stages, and also on the 2006 Donegal rally. Will be a great experience

Re: Race Retro 2013
Sounds awesome, Nicky!
Having a ride on the rough stuff in a 6R4 is a real experience. I know from my wonderful experience with Rob Gibson last August! To have a ride in another 6R4 with pedigree is the very sweet icing on a very sweet cake! I'd better stop there - I'll end up with a sugar rush, as as a diabetic, that's not a good thing!
I doubt I'll be going along myself, tempting though it is, but I've got my eye on attending as many of this year's rallycross meetings as I can. To negotiate another day or two away from the house and family for 'yet more' motorsport activities might be asking a bit too much! I'm sure I'm not alone there!?
We'll expect a blow by blow account of the event and Nicky, we want some pics and feedback about the ride too! Cheers, Steve

Re: Race Retro 2013
Steve, I have been lucky enough to sit in a few 6R4's with some great drivers. I have been on both tarmac and gravel with Ali Serpen in C95 KOG (Ponds 86 RAC car) aswell as Chris Dillow on tarmac, Ian Rowlance on gravel/tarmac, Gary Hewitt on tarmac and Dave Pearson on tarmac. I have also been very lucky to have driven my friend Garys 6R4 on both gravel and tarmac, which is a fantastic experience especially with the V6 howling away when you put your foot down To be out with Aled in the ex McRae metro is going to be another great experience as he doesnt hang about.
Fully understand your reasons for not able to attend. I have to book the saturdays off for rallies or shows as I work saturday evenings so wouldnt want to spend a day out rallying then get home, have something to eat then go and do an 11 hour shift on my feet all night
Of course, I will get plenty of pics to put on here and share the experience with you all

Re: Race Retro 2013
Splendid, Nicky! Look forward to that.
What a lucky chap you are, having been in so many 6R4s and got your paws on one as driver as well. I've gone green with envy! Cue for a green smilie..... ah, here it is! Hmmmm! Anyway, very pleased for you. Maybe I'll get a ride in another 6R4 at som time in the future? I'm not holding my breath (or I'll go green, perhaps! ) and don't expect to ever drive one but the one experience I've had so far with Rob was amazing and something I'll treasure for very many years to come!
Cheers, Steve

Re: Race Retro 2013
The South Hants Model Auto Club will be at Race Retro in Hall 1 opposite the display of real rally cars. Come and say hello. I dont know who half of you are unless you come and say hello!! If you want to take photos please ask and I can open up the display boxes for you.
You can meet up at the stand or we can move into the nearby exhibitors rest area which over looks the hall. I will be around all three days
The SHMAC will have displays covering Lotus Racing cars, Mini racing & rally, Australian Motorsport, the Jabekke Record cars from the 1950s and I will have a two box display to represent the 50 years of the Manx Rally. Quite by chance its very nearly 50 models at this moment in time, with a few more in the pipeline.
Cheers
Chris

Sounds excellent, Chris. I'd have loved to have seen your displays at Race Retro and to have met you at long last, of course. Even more reasons for being urked that I can't be there. Bah and humbug!
Have a great meeting, hope it goes very well for you. Cheers Steve

Steve
I have a trial run of the Manx display (thats minus one of course!!) this weekend at the HRCR Open Day. They will be squeezed into one box rather than two, so I will post up some photos Sat or Sun.
Cheers

Re: Race Retro 2013
I'm going for all three days of Race Retro this year, as previously I have only done the weekend. There's still so much to see around the place, including two days of action out on the Live Rally Stage too. The Entry List is superb... http://www.rallyingwithgroupb.net/blog/#post11
I am toying with the idea of finding a cheap B&B or Guest House in the area though. OK, Stonleigh Park is only 60 miles away from my house, but for the amount of money I'm going to spend on petrol going home on Friday evening, two journeys on Saturday, and back down again on Sunday morning I might as well get a room. Just a thought at the moment though...
...will have to test the water with 'er indoors first!

South Hants Model Auto Club display is in Hall 1 Stand J46, against the wall looking into the real rally car display.
Pleased to meet up with any forum members, come onto the stand and say hello. I know Nicky L, Dave S (Cowley) and Dave C (Zeus) will be visiting if you need their autographs....
Cheers

What time will they be there at?
Just so I know when not to be there
Will pop by at some point over the weekend Chris
Re: Race Retro 2013
Making a time to suit everyone is difficult. I guess we will all be outside when the rally cars are in action. So how about after one of these sessions? We will all need to get back inside because its going to be fir cone cold outside!!
If you want to take photos of the displays we can open up the display boxes for you. So just ask.
See you all there.
Cheers

Re: Race Retro 2013
Hi all. I am definately going on the saturday, and maybe going on the sunday aswell. I dont know if I will be able to meet up at 1.15 on the saturday, as my dad and cousins husband are coming along for the day and with me going in the 6R4 with Aled, that takes quite abit of time away from looking around the show. I might see if they fancy looking around the show whilst I pop over to meet you all at 1.15 and then meet them back up after. I think I will need to come back on the sunday, just to have a propper look at the models for sale and photos from ferret lol please leave some 1/18's for me guys
Re: Race Retro 2013
We could also meet up at the same time on Sunday for anyone thats busy/not around on Saturday.
Just in case I don't get internet access between now n then.................hope to put a few faces to names at the weekend, see you Saturday or Sunday
