Re: Cowley's latest projects...
Very nice, David. The Knebworth one is a credit to ya (as are the rest, of course!). Beautiful.

Re: Cowley's latest projects...
Many thanks Ted, that is very kind of you!
I always try and include some finer detail if I can, which usually helps to enhance a model's overall appearance a fair bit!
Thank you again.

Re: Cowley's latest projects...
Apart from working on the Duez 86 Sanremo car that I mentioned, the following model is also currently gracing my workbench...
At the moment it is simply a plain white bodyshell that I have stripped, and glossed using Halfords Appliance White. As with all of my own builds, I also paint the interior in Satin Black as I think it just gives a much nicer overall appearance to the interior when 'looking in' from the outside...
I have still got to detail paint the windscreen surround, and the vents, ducts and holes etc. I use a fine brush for the windscreen, but not the other areas mentioned as no matter how steady your hand is, it is still quite easy for them to ruin a model if they're a bit on the tatty side.
So my technique is to buy a permanent Super Fine Staedtler Mars OR Stabilo OHP (Overhead Projector Film) pen, and 'colour in' all of the vents, ducts and holes with it. As it is Super Fine it is small enough to get into all the corners without totally flooding the area with ink, and therefore making a right mess. With practice you will learn how to hold the pen at the correct angle, and simply work it into each corner.
There are several options what to build this model into, and I have made up my own mind what it is going to be! However, here are some of the decal options that I have available, followed by what the car looks like at the moment with either period Dymag 6-spoke tarmac rims, or more recent Compomotive 5-spoke tarmac rims fitted.

Hey David,
Very many thanks for the shots of the rear of the Knebworth car. Now I can see what you mean. Very helpful. As you've mentioned before, it's all in the detail! Fabulous stuff!
The Halfords Appliance White looks neat. I've tried ARG Diamond White and Ford Diamond White but both are just a tiny bit too yellow for my liking. The Appliance White looks spot on!
Like the wheels on the white car too. Rather tasty!
Cheers, 'Lightweight' Steve

Re: Cowley's latest projects...
Nah I think I'll leave 'HAMMY' for the future sometime mate - I'll need to take off the front bib for that one!Zeus wrote:Hammy
I just thought I'd add the photo of the 5-spoke wheels to tie in with the 'HAMMY' decals shown, as those would be the wheels I'd be using when I eventually tackle it. I would also need to make some standard Metro mirrors for it as well Dave, so I'll pass on that one for a bit.
Re: Cowley's latest projects...
Many thanks Steve, and I am pleased that you found the photos useful.
Yes I agree with you, the Appliance White is a nice clean 'white white' with no tints included.
Those 5-spoke wheels will be for my John Stone Legend Fires car, commonly known as 'HAMMY' due to it's registration number F887 HAM. FYI, the wheels were sourced from a Citroen ZX like this one....

Excellent detailing on the launch car David, it's the little details that make all the difference Imho.
Coincidentally I did the same rear chassis detail on my Steve Palmer car, great minds and all that

Re: Cowley's latest projects...
Many thanks Simon - I too am of the opinion that it's the smaller details that make the difference.
I'd be intersted in seeing a photo of the rear of your Palmer car when you get a chance, just to compare notes and see how yours turned out. I have a slightly adjusted plan for the next time I am going to be doing a car without the rear undertray, which should be an improvement on the 1985 Knebworth white car. Well, it should be....
Just pop yourself over to my '3mm or 3.5mm circular headlight / spotlamp lenses?' topic, and have a look at Noel's John Price car - it's a stunner for sure!

Re: Cowley's latest projects...
Here's my latest completed project (but nothing to do with the plain white shell above!)...
Harri Toivonen's 1986 Okobank 1000 Lakes Rally 'Unipart' liveried entry, made by applying Carlo's decals to a stripped Eklund 'Clarion' car from the same event.
The additional 'ropework' represents the bungee cords that the team used to keep the front spoiler and aerofoil in place following an earlier off...

Re: Cowley's latest projects...
Many thanks chaps - very much appreciated.
If you both have a set of Carlo's Toivonen 86 1000 Lakes decals to use, can I just say that I'd suggest that you discard the 'Surefire Spark Plugs' decals on the front and rear wings, as they are FAR TOO BIG on the original sheet, and do not fit the space available! I remade mine myself, managed to match the blue colour pretty well, and...
...they are available now from Cowley's Decal Cº for a reasonable amount!

Re: Cowley's latest projects...
Juha & Simon...
The 'Surefire Spark Plugs' decals that I made are 15mm long, whereas the one's on the original sheet were 26mm long!
Thank you very much Colin, Noel, Dave and Paul - it is indeed very much appreciated, cheers fellas!
Another point of note for anybody contemplating making this model - it is left hand drive! - hence why I used Eklund's Clarion car as the base model.
