Fancied a change so got me little dremel set out and started to widen the arches on a mini ready to fit bigger wheels and arches in
Cage being worked on and window grid in
Seat in centre position and little engine in the back.
Tomorrow I am going to make the arches on it and start primering up
Centre partition in too

Hi Mark,

Good work that man! Very much 'something different', well done for taking on the challenge! What are you making the arches from?

Assuming it's a Vitesse donor body, I wonder what interior the model had..... only one of my 47 Minis hasn't got the right interior for the model it's meant to be. I'm wondering abo changing the existing one using decals, but yours may be an option, depending on its colour scheme! If it's appropriate (and for sale) I could add it to the list of bits I'll be ordering off you shortly! Very Happy And yes, I do have virtually every Mini derivative in my collection, though no Clubmans yet!!

Cheers, Steve

Hello Steve
its based on a Cararama bodyshell as they are cheap enough to modify.
Talking of Clubman cars I have a stack of Dinky ones and did do two rallycross ones years ago one being the green & white minispares one.

The arches are made out of plasticard as you will see later when I primer the shell up

Mark, I can remember very well the two Green & White Minispares cars being wheeled out at Lydden Hill and doing pretty well, I recall. There was a Plastic Padding one as well but can't remember who drove that one. Trevor Reeves drove the Doves Group rallycross Mini (and later pioneered the Metro in rallycross with partial factory backing) and was in the news recently as it was Trevor's family's furniture business that was torched in Croydon in last summer's rioting!

In the mid 1980s, Roy Clark competed in a space-framed Clubman which is still being rallycrossed by Ian Biagi to this day. Ian, who is based in Scotland, doesn't have to worry about a trailer for his car; he drives it onto the back of a pick up - one big advantage of rallycrossing Minis!

Some rallycross trivia for you.... and if you can get a shot of the two G&W Minis on here, I for one would appreciate it! Very Happy Looking forward to seeing the autocross Min as you progress with the build. Cheers, Steve

Regarding Autocross
I was on the Autocross north east committe years ago and remember Ian Biaggi in his Biaggi special.
I have some G&W pics which I will dig out for you

Just got hold of a few more minis and I will prep them up just incase I get some work out of them

Hi Mark,

I think you could well be right about Keith Ripp. Wasn't it he who later drove the Hepolite sponsored Fiesta? I'm going to have to dig my Bill Mantovani Rallycross book out and check this up!

Cheers, Steve

Agreed, great to see it taking shape, Mark. I see what you mean about the plasticard wheelarches. Smile

I took a look on YouTube and saw it being used. The 1mm thick stuff looks quite stiff, so would expect you've used a much thinner guage to follow the wheel arch curvature.

How did you create the mesh for the windscreen? Sorry for the questons (here and on the advice threads). I feel like I'm permanently at the bottom of a very steep learning curve! Very Happy
