Pirelli Carlise Rally - BRC

Interesting to see another different winner on the 3rd BRC event and by all accounts Bogie was peddling hard before sliding off.

Im hoping someone can enlighten me on why the organisers apologised during the event for some drivers beating the bogey times? What are these and whats the consequence of beating these?

Bogey times were brought in as a safety measure to bring the speeds down.  I think it was around the mid to late 80's.  It's basically a time worked out by calculating how long it would take to complete the stage at an average speed.  Someone better clued in than me can say what that speed is now as I've totally forgotten

So even if you set a time faster than the "bogey", you will be credited with that average speed time.  We have a lot of quick stage here in Ireland so you will find a good few hay bale chicanes placed on them to try and slow the cars down and stop them beating the "bogey". You really don't want so many people beating the bogey times like they did at the weekend as you don't get your reward for driving as hard as you did, it was all for nothing.

The average speed for forest stages is apparently 70mph so the likes of Evans etc smashed that on 2 stages on day 1 but didnt benefit from doing so. Looks like the MSA missed a trick given the return of 4 wheel drive turbo cars capable of beating that.

1st time I was aware of it was the 86 Ulster when if I recall right McRae, Llewellyn, Sundstrom etc beat it on a few stages, I gather it was in existence before then but pre GpB speeds it wasn't a factor. As said above 70mph on forest roads, I think 75 on tar.
The sunday stage of the Pirelli where I think 13 cars beat the bogey was a proper mess up, for the other two stages I've some sympathy for the organisers as BRC front end pace is mental this year

Marshaled SS1 and the Histerics were mint to watch. The R5's and S2000's are fast and break on a sixpence, but didnt seem as spectacular as the histerics where.
