Ford Escort 2018 Celebrations ......Yes.......?????????????

Perhaps I am a little premature of perhaps a bit more than a little premature........but I am  just thinking that in 2018 the Ford Escort will be 50 Years old......
     The car has had a long life worldwide and  the great car really stamped its name  in the History of motorsport and especially in Rallying.....
     I guess its life or lifetimes in Motorsport will not go unnoticed or  go uncelebrated......and of course the Escort continue in Rallying to this day and I believe will be here for a long time to come, because the car has been around so long that many generations feel that they grew up with the Escort both Mk1 and Mk2..........
     I carry a photo of our Mk1 Rally car on the rear doors of my van in daily use and its amazing the amount of conversations  and questions the photos trigger off every day.....from "I learned to drive in one of those Mk1 Escorts" to "is that a Vintage Car??   How many years ago was that photo taken and people are surprised when they hear it was only a few months ago.......They can also be stunned at what its costing and the power that can be reached with such an old machine....
     The Mini is the only other car I can think of that made such an impression on Rallying and Motorsport...
What do you guys think??????    What kind of celebrations will there be.????

Whilst I'm no fan of the blue oval and its products, I have every respect for the Escort as it has left (and continues to leave) a real (positive) mark on rallying, rallycross and other motorsport in the UK and far beyond. The majority are rear wheel drive which of course makes them very interesting to watch and the sound of a screaming BDA engine is something I grew up listiening to on Grandstand at at Brands Hatch, pushed up against the catch fencing as a youngster!

I would hope that the Ford workd will give the Escort a suitably huge celebration. The mini boys and girls took over Silverstone for the Mini's 50th. Hopefully the Escort will have an event in which enthusiasts can park up and shows theirs off whilst watching others race around a circuit whilst others tackle a rally stage, all at the same site. Of course Ford would want to show off the showroom-fresh current models but perhaps also some historic cars from their own collection?

Just some ideas. Will be interesting to see what happens.

aye, I learned to drive in my mums 1600 sport mk2, still hanker after one of these but they're fetching silly money......def soft spot for the escorts.. (don't tell gaz lads please lol!!)
