Re: 1/18 VW Golf 7 SCRC Prodrive
so, been a while I haven't touch the Golf7 Project as I was putting my energy on the Mini...
but over the last two weeks I spend well over 15 hours to scratch build the front arches and the engine bay. as it was a scratch build many mistakes and over builds happened
it was an error experience relation and it ends up this way.... still need some more filling, fixing etc but mostly took shape....
next will be the roll cage I guess before I start the body details
thanks to styrene sheets I was successful to build scratch parts...
with the experiences I had on the Mini, this time the engine bay is bigger and more space... so hoping that the engine will not be to tight fit
thats about for now... see you next time

Re: 1/18 VW Golf 7 SCRC Prodrive
I realised that it's been very long that I haven't touched this project... and decided its time to put my hand on it and have some progress..
so here are the latest...
first of all, after preparing the front end of the car, I started with the roll cage...
it's still in progress and missing some tubes, but good enough to shape & prepare the dashboard as next I have to send over that dashboard for special painting...
Next big surgery was the front bumper... I either had to scratch build or find an easier way to sort out... and I go with the second option, easier one
I used the Norev Polo WRC as a donor and cut out the from bumper...
next was to fit this bumper to Golf.... they are almost same design with some small differences... I will see how further I will replicate the bumper to be as accurate during the process..
I first cut out the front bumper and leave the upper parts to have correct fitment for the lights and the engine booth...
after cutting out the Polo front bumper I still had to shape the upper part to fit perfectly with the Golf top part...
after first surgery this is how the scarves looks like
there will still be many grinding, cutting and shaping to make this thing looks good. but for now those photos might give you some idea...
that's it for now, will see how the next update will go
thanks for following my build.

Re: 1/18 VW Golf 7 SCRC Prodrive
So, here comes the progress on the body kit...
Starting with the front bumper.
Glued in position and then styrene sheets done their job on it to shape more accurately...
It's time to build the fenders..
This time I used styrene sheet to create a base before the putty
a quick mock up to see the full kit with streyene sheet before putty
and Tamiya Polyester Putty is doing its trick
Shaping the putty
Need some more fine shaping and a bit more putty and sanding before ready for primer...
but shape is almost there
thats about for now and hope to have more progress soon...
till then all the best

Re: 1/18 VW Golf 7 SCRC Prodrive
Here is a bit more update and news about the body kit of the Prodrive Golf SCRC....
for the last week or so, I have been still working on the body kit of the Golf. so here below some photos for you guys...
Started with the rear wing. The original wing is coming from Norev Polo WRC 1/18 and there were some design differences between the two. so I had to add up and build the Golf wing. as usual everything in this build is scratch build and nothing is on easy way for me....
This is how the rear wing looks after I finished and painted it in Matt Black. at a later stage I will carbon wrap it...
Next up was correcting the shape of the Front fender lower parts as I didn't build last time. so, my best friend styrene sheets were in help of building it...
and this is how it looks at the moment
Last update for this week were the rear door arch kits...
they need some putty here and there before all ready for Primer...
The whole Body kit is almost there besides the rear bumper lower splitter.... I have to build it to match the original shape...
this is how she is sitting at the shelf now

thank you Mark!
I didn't hear any new car coming up. they already delivered 3 cars last and this year.... I heard the team boss/driver was talking that a car cost them 1.1 million USD....
but I know that Subaru is now preparing a new car for next year for Mark Higgins to match the Prodrive Golf's pace... otherwise, championship becomes very boring as they are way more powerful compared to Subaru or any other team.
If prodrive is building more cars for FAW VW team in China then thats good to hear more quality cars in the championship.

Re: 1/18 VW Golf 7 SCRC Prodrive
have a question for your guys....
So, after the Mini, this ones another detailed model I am trying to build...
so, here is my question! Originally, the front and rear bumpers are attached moulded to the body by Norev.
shall I cut them out and make them detachable like Mini? or should I keep as they are?
just couldn't make up my mind... help needed for a new headache

Re: 1/18 VW Golf 7 SCRC Prodrive
Once again Happy new year to everyone. I hope you guys had a good and happy holidays...
So, here is some updates about the Golf 7 project which I have been working on and off for the last month.
the biggest update was that I decided to cut out the bumpers
hope you guys will enjoy the latest updates..
Had to build the rear splitter.
This piece earleir was part of the Floor panel on the model.
I cut it out with right curves. and start building the correct shape of the Prodrive spilitter on the Golf 7...
now this is how it looks...
later need to tidy a bit and then will carbon wrap.
as mentioned above I decided to cut out the rear and front bumpers.
In order to house the connection points of the rear bumper I build up a chassis part using 1mm styrene sheet.
Sheet cut in shape in order to let the bumper and the trunk sit correctly
and then glued to the floor panel
Next up was to build crash bar and radiator supports on the front end of the car.
again styrene tubes and sheets were the best helps
Front and rear bumpers are connected to the body via pins. so I have to find the correct points to attached the pins on to the bumpers...
Time to cut out the bumpers...
Dremel out, Safety First!!
Before I used the dremel to cut out the bumpers I marked them out with a thin cut..
and.... front bumper is out
and next was the rear bumper
thats how she looks without the bumpers
and first trial to see how the bumpers sits...
there is a bit of gap which later I will fill in and shape...
Sorry for the dark photos but very tired for the day....
Still need some adjustments and tidy up, but that will be the next update who knows when I can handle...

Certainly made the right choice in cutting the bumper off. Makes it look more realistic. Top work.

thank you gentlemen for the comments.
it looks like it was the right choice but not as easy I thought.. I still need some adjustments and some gap fillings due to dremel was thicker then I thought

Re: 1/18 VW Golf 7 SCRC Prodrive
it's been another long while and I know I am like a turtle for updates
since then not much visible on the model but have been working on correct fitments after cutting both front and rear bumpers....
also prepared the roof scoop and the wing mirrors.... the body is almost done but still needs a primer to see defaults and fix them before I can go a head with the paint job...
hopefully I can also put my hands on the interior and the engine bay sometimes soon...
here are two photos of the car in her latest mock up, these mock ups makes me more excited tho
