FIA Global Rallycross, Round 2, Lydden Hill, 24th and 25th May
Dear All,
Just a quick 'flag wave' for this upcoming event. It promises to be a superb one, with the best of British fighting off competitors from across Europe and the rerst of the world.
Famous names such as Loeb, Solberg and Villeneuve have started competing in rallycross, Petter Solberg winning the first round in Portugal 2 weeks ago. David Coulthard will support the series at some events, so may possibly be at Lydden too.
However, most importantly, three of us from the Forum will be flying the flag for the Diecast Model Forum, by showing a collection of model rallycross and Group B cars over the weekend. Chris 'CDM' Derbyshire, Simon6R4 and I will be in the 'Special Guests' area mingling with the great and the good and also hoping to see some of the on-circuit action.
There will be a static display of Group B rallycross cars from across Europe and some of these will take to the track. Don't expect them to trundle around in a procession (they'll leave that for Formula One!) as players like Olle Arneson (Audi), Martin Iversen (RS200), Lawrence Gibson (MG Metro 6R4) and others will be looking to show the others who is top dog. Can't wait!!
Hope to see some more of you guys there and we'll get some photos of the displays at the event posted on here.
Cheers, Steve

Anyone got the price of an airfare for this, would love to go over to it??

Sorry I cannot be there to support you all Steve, but I am sure you will put on an excellent display between you. Hope all goes well, that you create an equally exciting 1/43 static display as the 1/1 track display, and that you enjoy the 'fame' & attention!
Photos please!

Seen the coverage of Portugal on Eurosport and really wanted to go, but dates dont suit to go. Its going to be an excellent weekend. Rallycross is fast becoming the only undiluted motorsport out there

Cheers Guys,
It will be an excellent weekend, I've no doubt.
At the last meeting at Lydden in March, there were 120+ cars competing in the various categories and approaching 100 races across the weekend. I'm anticipating there wil be something similar by way of numbers and spectacle this month.
The next time rallycross visits it's 'home' at Lydden, it will be late August over the bank holiday weekend. Sadly, it will be 'diluted' with 'drifting' and motorbikes jumping over ramps, which does take away some of the focus from my favoured form of motorsport. Still, it does mean that whilst the yoof are shredding tyres on track, us hardcore rallycrossers can head into the paddock and talk to the drivers and crews.
Now such diluting for the Global Rallycross event, though, apart from some blokes exhibiting their miniatures!!
Cheers, and 'come on down'! Steve

Really looking forward to the weekend, I'll make sure to drop by and introduce myself. It's been a while since I've been to a live rallycross event, but this one promises to be a cracker.
With all the interest being shown in rallycross, wouldn't it be great to get the GP back to Brands in December. Fingers crossed

Burnsy,
That's a wonderful thought about the GP returning to Brands like it was in the glory days! Every time I watch the BTCC from Brands and see where there is grass where the rallycross circuits have been, a part of me weeps as it is so unlikely that Brands will ever host another rallycross event, sadly!
Look forward to seeing you there. It should be obvious where the three of us are! I'll PM you my mobile so you can call when you're there.
Weather looks suitably volatile. Sun, clouds, heat, rain.... but who cares? Rallycross is the business whatever the weather!
Cheers, Steve

Re: FIA Global Rallycross, Round 2, Lydden Hill, 24th and 25th May
Sadly my late late plans to be there over the weekend have come to nought as would have been great to see so many supercars in action, sure I read somewhere that its the biggest ever entry for the top class so will be a mighty battle. Also would have been great to see the Group B cars again as last time I was at Lydden was in the late 80s for the "last" event they were officially running in. Drove down from Harrogate 4 up in my company car Fiesta diesel and back again in the evening, strange the things that seem sensible when you are younger!
Hope you guys have a great time and the weather is a bit kinder than the last couple of years as looking out of my office window at the moment doesnt look brilliant.
Cheers
Chris

Thanks Chris.
Sorry you can't make it. We WILL meet sooner or later, I'm sure!
We'll report back after the event. 37 supercars! Mmmmm!
Cheers, Steve
