PLEASE READ PLEASE READ!
ALL MODEL BUILDERS/DECAL PRODUCERS PLEASE USE THIS SECTION TO ANNOUNCE THERE NEW PLANS ASAP.
i dont know what work is involded in making models but im sure there is alot of background work done before anything is put in place, pics, bases etc etc.
if anybody is thinking of doing a model the reason i would ask for them to announce/check it on here asap is so you alone isnt out the money on research on such a model/decal incase another builder is thinking along the same lines with a model.
any questions please feel free to ask
thankyou

.
I was chatting to a few members about this a while ago and thought,
If a decal maker is doing decals for a model that a model builder is thinking of doing then maybe the builder could use the decal makers decals,
Maybe the decal maker could give the builder a time period to release his models before releasing the decals,
That way the decal maker would be sure to bulk sell a first set of decals + the builder would get a chance to sell models,
If they work together then it should keep costs down,
Another thought was for 3 builders and a decal maker to team up and release 3 models from the same event ie: 1st, 2nd 3rd place finishers,
The builders could rotate round so the same man isn't releasing the 1st place finisher all the time,
.

IrishRallyModels.com O'Callaghan Collection
Paul
Seeing as you opened this topic I though I'd post this here.
Our site is down and Rodder's is away, but we will be producing the Liam O'Callaghan cars over the course of the coming year or so. We have full permission of the driver to do so and will release more details in due course. Probably when I bump into you on a ditch at the Circuit!
Seamus
P.S. Don't tell Rodney I said this!!!

Yep that sounds a great idea Colin
Just 1 point to make on all this
I get full permission from drivers before I do anything
How many people producing the decals are getting permission from the driver

Re: PLEASE READ PLEASE READ!
Reading this seems to be a good idea but at the end of the day a model builder stating that he intends making a certain model or models mean very very little I think. Alan announced he was making one there and fair enough Peter did not know but KMD announced when he made the first Magher Escort he was doing all Franks cars. That did not mean a lot as a few has been made already since Kevin announced it.
Now thats my opinion and to who ever made any I am not getting at them. Just stating it will be very hard to get it to work.

I don't think anyone has a right to do a model solely. My era is the 70's and 80s and early 90s. Have no interest in the more modern stuff. I very rarly use anothers decals. I prefer to get my own made and I mostly do my own artwork too as it tends to be more accurate on the logos front.

Not so sure about that Rory. KMD (Kevin) set up a Fisher foundation with part of the money he made from the models going to it. He had asked the Fisher family for permission therefore had sole rights. Saying that it did not stop other builders doing Fisher models. As i said above in this thread stating that they intend making a model means nothing.

correct.....what was the point then in kevin going down these routes when other builders just tear on with fisher models.

Re: PLEASE READ PLEASE READ!
Because kevin has a genuine interest in the cars he has made as opposed to those that make cheap and crap decals and flog them off.

So you would be happy enough Rory if someone came along and made the same model you have planned and bought decals base cars for
I DONT think so...........

If I want a model for my collection, I wouldn't care whether or not someone asked someone else if they could do it. I wouldn't be bothered if 2 people were doing it, I'd probably buy both anyway so no need for handbags.
I think you are all very talented patient people who should just share the wealth and make more old skool stuff!

Re: PLEASE READ PLEASE READ!
Theres a difference in announcing a model that your working on, and one you plan to do.
If we lived in a world where you could say your planning a model and that means no one else could do it then where would we be. One builder would announce hes doing all the irish cars that ever existed and sit on them forever and nothing would get done.
While i agree that announcing model is great as it gets the market excited/people save money if its tight etc, you cant expect people to wait until whenever you get round to it if you take to long to get it done.
Take KMD and the meagher cars. These were announce years ago but we've only seen 2. You cant expect everyone to wait until Kevin gets these done himself. I will be buying any others that pop up in the meantime, but will still buy Kevins when it eventually comes out.
