Thank you Maurice - that is very kind of you. I doubt you're that bad in all honesty though?mconboy wrote:No bother to you David..Will look forward to seeing it.
Sounds very easy but not when you shake like an old tv ariel an have ten thumbs
PS - What do you call a Judge with no fingers?... ...Justice Thumbs!
Ssshhhhhhh that man, I am trying to live with this model's inaccuracies without you lot pointing out new ones that I'd not spotted!newt5550 wrote:David, Are you going to angle the air intake on the rear wheel arch pod thingy
I think I can live with that angle being wrong Chris...
Re: Grand Prix Models' 1984 MG Metro 6R4 'prototype'
Glad you pointed the leading edge of the side pods out, Chris. As I was tracking my way throgh the various posts in order, I'd noticed the difference, but you pipped me to it.
Mind you, I can't believe David would live with himself having the model with that glaring difference/ inaccuracy! I know I couldn't and already had that modification in mind as and when I get another prototype body, as there's a very similar red prototype pictured in the factory yard which appeals. Look at post 42 on this link. Isn't that you post, David? http://www.ten-tenths.com/forum/showthread.php?t=121117&page=3
Cheers, Steve

Re: Grand Prix Models' 1984 MG Metro 6R4 'prototype'
I can probably live with that angle being wrong chaps - it would seem to be quite tricky to adjust the angle without damaging the face of the door, and the panel lines. I guess it can be done with a Dremel and then a bit of rebuilding, but it isn't a major concern for me I must admit.
Yes you are quite correct Steve, that is indeed my good self over on the Ten-Tenths forum. This will be the car you are talking about then mate - the very first prototype with the more-rounded style of bodywork, rather than the later (wrongly angled!) squarer style prototype bodywork that everyone is more familiar with. This car was delivered by Williams F1 Engineering to Cowley in late 1982, but this photo actually dates to early 1983 when it was 'rolled out' for a few photos...
I will be making a model of this car as well, but whether I cannibalise one of my GPM kits, or cast a brand new one of my own?, to work on is anyone's guess at the moment. I do however have the most perfect form of reference for this version, in that I actually own two sets of the very same panels that adorned this car all those years ago! All I will have to do is reduce all of the dimensions, shapes and profiles to 1/43 scale!...
You might also see that the very furthest panel on the right (in red and standing up against the trailer), is actually one of the later squarer rear wings - perfect for checking the angle of the leading face should I do eventually decide to adjust the models accordingly.
All of this prototype work will have to wait however, as I am heavily involved in producing my next CODE343 branded model release at the moment, as well as four separate commissions. Busy times indeed....

Excellent, David!
Yes, that is the very car I was referring to. I think it would make an excellent addition to my collection, but given you have the special bits, it makes more sense to wait for you to show your hand than it is for me to start having a chop and fill using only the photos and the bit of video on You tube when Tony Pond and co were demonstrating the 6R4 for the first time, as was broadcast on the news.
Not to worry, I have PLENTY of other 6R4-based projects/ liveries to get through. 50 or more, I'd think!!!!
Cheers, Steve

Yes, Simon, if I'm snowed in over the weekend, I'll be rolling up my sleeves and cracking on with all manner of model-car related mayhem! Almost finished the Gollop 6r4s, just the dashboards to paint up and final 'tweaking', have to repaint the Manx course car as that took a tumble as I was painting it (Ooops! ) and complete the red Mini Italian Job special edition. May even start one of my Jemmpy Rover Vitesse models!
I was thinking about the prototype 6R4, Simon, and wondered if you could take a Starter kit and warm that up over the stove, referring to you other post!!
Cheers, Steve

Cheers guys - just another one of my long term future plan to tackle one of these rainy, possibly snowy days!

Don't know if resin would react in the same way as plastic would probably fill the room with toxic fumes!!!
And I'm much more mature and sensible now than to try such a thing

Don't worry, fellas, the waving 'LOL' signs will waft away the smoke in no time!
Like you, I wouldn't really want to try it, Simon. A resin 6R4 shell is not to be toyed with! Neither is heat/ flames! We must always be sensible and grwon up on here. Apparently!

MG Metro 6R4 'Prototype' Paint Codes...
RED & WHITE '1984 York National Rally':
RED - Rover Sebring Red - given to me by the original bodyshop that sprayed the cars!
NOTE! : I also seem to recall that the original GPM instructions advised modellers to use Rover Cinnibar Red, although I will check the instructions this evening.
TERNCO OILS:
BLUE - Toyota #868 - period name.
YELLOW - Fiat #141 - period name.
COMPUTERVISION:
BLUE - Fiat Azzuro Blue #437 - this is it's period name, so it will be called something else nowadays but the paint shop should still be able to ID it.
WHITE - #0-9-0155-2 - modern name.
I hope that helps!

Hey David,
That's fantastic! Thanks for that. I'm sure you're right about GPM's instructions re Cinnabar. The built car I have is light enough to be Cinnabar Red and is several shades lighter than the press reveal car I made using Rover Flame Red, which looks more realistic. I'll try and compare the Flame Red with the Sebring Red, which I hadn't been aware of before!
Thinking of shades of red used by MGR et al, would you have any idea, or know someone who does know the shade of red paint used on the Mini AVC Prototype in 1997? The Piranha instructions says 'red' and every model I've seen built has a solid red, but the original car was clearly a metallic finish with a slight brown tinge to it! Any help would be very much appreciated. Both Mark and I have kits to build of these little beauties, but I don't want to get too far before knowing the paint to use.
I was having another go at my Ternco car last night, funnily enough. The Humbrol yellow I already have, which I think is number 69, is a very good match for the yellow decals thatcame with the kit but which are a bit friable. If I was doing this again, I'd cut the decals into several pieces, for the pillars and windscreen surround, as they didn't sit very well doing them together as suggestied in the instructions! Live and learn! I've been playing with this model on and off (mostly off) for months, so must make a concerted effort and finish it off!

Dear All,
I found that Rover Tartan-Sebring Red has three codes: CDJ-CDE-CCB. Hope that helps anyone looking to purchase a can of the red stuff for forthcoming model.
Cheers, Steve
