Re: first rally this year
That looks interesting!
Maybe we can make this into a topic for the members who are also competing instead of just collecting models? I don't know which of both is the most expensive.

Re: first rally this year
My attempts to compete this year have been quite frustrating.
First the Legend Boucles de Spa with a Welshman in a hired Avenger, which developed an unhealthy habit of killing its own wipers.
The first stage got cancelled so we were left with some spare time to fix the wipers. The wipers worked... and sent sparks coming out of the dashboard. Not good.
Further attempts failed and we retired after stage 5 when the engine dropped a cylinder, the windscreen heater and all the lights packed up, and visibility became rather poor...
My second rally of the year was in a Peugeot 206. "I just bought it, never tried it." That sounds like a brilliant idea...
Verdict: we did 20km on SS1 and then a hose burst and all the cooling fluid found it's way into the car. No finish.
So he offered me to do another rally, in his Citroën C2 R2, which had finished each rally he had done with it.
2 km into SS1 the car slowed down as if it had no power left. It cost us a load of time, and still we passed other cars on the stage. Repairs during service didn't help and we retired on SS2 when the same fault returned. After getting the car back to service at a crawling pace (the clutch was gone by then as well), my driver and his mechanic kept on looking and found all the bolts keeping the gearbox and engine together had come loose. That might explain it. It got fixed in 10 minutes, but by then were out anyway. The said mechanic will have some more work to do as he was competing too but the problem he suffered was more terminal, a head-on collision with a straw bale. Driver and mechanic will have something to talk about tomorrow as they both work in the same place.
