Re: Race Retro 2012
Same here, great show and also 5 laps in STW201R...... still got a cheesy grin on my face !!
Re: Race Retro 2012
Great show yesterday as per previous, lots to look at but came away without purchasing a single thing! Sorry didnt get chance to meet up with anyone. The model club members were busy comparing their purchases when I approached the stand so decided to leave them to it! Great action out on the stage and have posted some pics in the photo section espcially some for the 6R4 fans.

Re: Race Retro 2012
What a fantastic show this was once again! Me and my dad has a great time. The highlights were seeing and speaking to Chris Derbyshire about 6R4's and models (many thanks for the tips and advice Chris) and seeing the wonderfull display he setup with the group b cars, well done
Other highlights of the show were seeing the group b cars outside on the stage, including the ex Colin McRae 6R4 which i helped build back in 2001 when I used to help at TAL Motorsport back in the day on weekends. It was great to see the car again Along with lots of other amazing group b cars. I managed to get hold of the group b book by Mcklein and John Davenport so that is going to keep me busy for a while reading that, the pictures just on the book are amazing so god knows what awesome pictures are in it!
Sorry to Peter and Simon for not making it back at Chris's display at the arranged time. We didnt realise what the time was when the group b demos were on and then we went straight to the auto jumble so my dad could spend ages boring me as he was looking at the tools lol
I will upload some pics to the gallery tomorrow.

Re: Race Retro 2012
Thanks for all the comments about the Group B display. It really does make it all worth while when genuine people say nice things, can spot the right models and appreciate the effort.
Friday was an amazing day lots of good people passing by and stopping. As ever Bill Price (BL Motorsport) and Stuart Turner (BMC & Ford) stopping for a chat.
Great to meet up with Nicky and Simon, sorry we missed everyone else!! You needed to come onto the stand and say hello because I dont know who you are!! Next time....
More than happy chat, help and support others with their collections.
Mr Rally Models Andy Howdle turned up on Sunday with the family. Dont ask either of us about Ford RS200s. Clearly a senior moment!!! But where was Mr 6R4 Sims?
Didnt pick up much on the model front. But we did pick up a limited edition Mini print in a frame for £10 and a Mk1 Escort one for £5!!!
Got back this evening at 21.00hrs completley cream crackered. I will post photos on Monday evening after I have caught up on some sleep at work..zzzzzzz

Re: Race Retro 2012
From the reports I've read, and the photos I've seen, it looks like a missed one helluva show this year! Ho hum....
Apologies to yourself Chris for not making it down to the show yesterday. I had full intention of travelling the 1hr 20mins to Stoneleigh, and on Saturday evening was all set - camera batteries charged, memory cards emptied, wallet bursting at the seams, sandwiches and a flask of tomato soup made... ...but it was not to be!
I'd been to see my parents in Stockport on the Saturday and didn't get home till about 7.30pm - still fully intending to make the trip on Sunday. We had a friend's party to go to on the Saturday night, and conscious of that I limited by beer intake so that I'd be OK to drive the following morning. However, when I woke up that day I still felt a little delicate, and simply decided that it was not worth risking driving the distance feeling the way I did - not worth losing my license for anything!
In hindsight maybe I should have drank soft drinks all night, but then again....
The photos I've seen of your 6R4 display looked stunning, and I particularly like the McRae course cars, the DAM 4100, and the Fielding 1985 RAC entry - awesome work mate. I had even dug out my Llewellyn 86 Manx model to bring down and show it off to you. Ho hum....

Dave
Sunday was very quiet!!!
But had a great chat with the owner of the Busby Chevette, talking with AN Other who was telling me loads about various so called works cars, drove an MGB and Alfa Guiletta on the HERO test stage and got into see the auction cars FOC and found an orange 6R4 ex Duncan Holder car. I have photos if anyone wants them, not seen the published selling price for it.
Sorry we didnt see you, we were already for your arrival in the building!! The Llewellin car would have been too much of a tease, but I am happy to wait... Nicky was teling me that he had written to you when he was 14 asking were he could see some 6R4s and you had pointed in the right direction - thats what its all about sharing the enthusiasm.
Collecting model cars can seriously damage your wealth......
Cheers

Re: Race Retro 2012
Well Chris, I'd have livened it up a bit if I had made it down to see you yesterday lol!
Sounds like you had a great weekend, and I agree totally about pointing people in the right direction, and sharing enthusiasm etc. I am always happy to help if I can, but I just wish Nicky hadn't reminded me how young he was when he wrote to me lol!
Looking forward to the 2013 Race Retro - do you still need a Llewellin car for it Chris?

I have a theme in my head, but depending what the organisers choose it might change.
We do have a bit of banter with the organisers, coming up with a few anniversaries or ideas for them. We then try and match them in our displays.
But dont worry 2014 is the 30th Anniversary of the 6R4 so we will be pushing that one to them. So thats 830 days until that one, so dont leave it until the last minute!!!
