3D scanning and printing quote... ...for your reference!
Just out of interest, I thought I'd approach a Google-sourced 3D scanning and printing company, and see how much they would quote to 3D scan a 1/43 scale dashboard (without a steering wheel), mirror it on the horizontal axis, and then 3D print 10 OFF of them.
So what do you reckon then chaps?... ...whoever is closest gets a FREE 1/43 scale dashboard when I give this company the instruction to proceed!

Hmmm! I like a competiton!!
I'll go mad and suggest £150.00 for the work.
I could be out by a factor of ten, but would David be offering a prize worth £150 for one dashboard?
Very much hoping I'm massively wrong with my £150 suggestion and that the figure is a tiny fraction of this. If it's a tenth of my guesstimate, this will be good news of those of us who cut about and modify our models at home - I made my first 'chassis' yesterday which was a right hassle, but I'm happy with the results!
Cheers, Steve

Some interesting guesses and comments chaps, and I must admit that some of you are way off the mark it's untrue, whereas others are much closer!
I will announce the actual cost, and the subsequent winner later this evening to give a few others a chance to enter.

Im going to guess around £20 for the 10 dashs.
Nearly all the costswith 3d modelling would be building the actual digital model. Printing costs would be quite small. Since its being scanned it would be cheaper than drawing from scratch

Well here you go then chaps, this is the email that I had back from the company, all based on the aforementioned quote submitted...
"You’re looking at a ball park figure of approximately £4000 for this - from scanning to printing. It’s the scanning, processing and 3D modelling required, that is where the money is - printing X10 of them would be approximately £150."
Staggering, I think you'll agree!
So, as I will therefore most definitely NOT be '…giving this company the instruction to proceed!...', there isn't actually a winner of the aforementioned prize! Sorry chaps!
My search for a cheaper alternative continues however...

Noticed a part work being advertised on telly the other night..build your own 3d printer! Might just be slightly cheaper alternative unless its in 5000 instalments

I saw that as well, Chris. Nice idea in theory, but how do you get the data 'inside' to be able to print anything?
