Otto take over Solido?
Recieved the latest newsletter from Otto today and this part stuck out.
Seems Otto have taken over Solido and will continue to make diecast models under the Solido name. Hopefully this will allow them access to Solidos back catalog of models so we may see more varations.
As good news never comes alone, some of you have already seen in the specialized press that we have take on Solido. It’s a great honor and a real vote of confidence from the Simba-Dickie group by giving us the keys of the Solido house. It is of course well understood that OttOmobile and Solido are two different universes. OttOmobile creates sporty cars in resins; we will do classical cars in metal with Solido. The opportunity came our way thanks to all of those who have supported us all along. Thank you to all of you and to the Simba-Dickie group for this new adventure which will be strewn with many surprises.

Re: Otto take over Solido?
I am the only one who doesn't rate Solido models very highly or have I been unlucky and only seen poor efforts from Solido that don't represent their normal quality of output? Otto's cars seem to be of a very high standard, so can't understand what was in the deal for them buying out Solido?
Maybe it is the back catalogue! Who knows? Tiime will tell, just hope it doesn't drag Otto down by taking their eye off what they do well!
Cheers, Steve

Re: Otto take over Solido?
steve, while i you're not wrong about solido, it must be taken in context, like all things in life.........compare a £40 solido 1:18 with a £140 autoart 1:18 and the weaknesses in production are obvious..but look at the price difference.....also, compare a £40 1:43 model, and the greater detail, more realistic panel sizes, and opening features revealing engine/cage details, make the solido seem excellent value.....everything is relative m8... i have to confess to having a couple of solido, sunstar, revell and ut models in my collection, and appreciate them for what they are...low-cost, reasonable products of models often not made by anyone else...eg the renault 5 turbos by ut, the mk2 escorts by sunstar...etc
re otto, i agree totally about their excellent product for the money, and only hope that they will be able to continue and improve both marques with more releases in the year ahead.... anyway, time will tell......
cheers m8

Let's also hope they don't over stretch themselves and end up with 2 sub par brands or even worse both go under....
Already seeing QC issues with otto and customer service getting a lot worse when things do go wrong.

Otto already own a company called GT Spirit who make sports cars. It was set up around the same time when things changed with the Otto models and quality control issues started to arise.
