1/1 scale car opinions
I am saving up for another car for a few months and am wondering what to get. I am looking at spending around £3k - £3.5k on it but just wondering what peoples opinions and suggestions are. I only live up the road from work so dont need it for work, the only thing I will be definately using it for on a weekly basis is for college when I go in september, so fuel economy isnt too much of an issue for me.
Here is some of the cars I have been looking at. If people have owned any and can give me any advice or anyone knows of anything better than I am open to suggestions I think this could get quite interesting lol
Audi S3
Ford Focus ST170
Ford Fiesta ST
Honda Civic Type R (ep3 version)
Honda Integra Type R
Mini Cooper S (Supercharged version)
Peugeot 206 GTI 180
Renault Clio 182 Cup
Seat Leon Cupra R
Skoda Octavia VRS
Toyota Celica GT4 ST205
VW Golf Gti mk4
Thats the sort of car I am after. I have always liked the GT4 celica's but I wonder wether to get something that old or go with a much newer car.
Anyway, over to you guys now

Re: 1/1 scale car opinions
Cheers Paul, I worked as a trainee at audi after I left school and I remember how many miles some of the older audi's that came into the workshop had. 240,000 miles I remember on an audi 80!! I dont do silly mileage either, so as long as it has got a good service history and looked after then mileage wont put me off if its over 100k
Re: 1/1 scale car opinions

The only thing I would do to a S3 would be a remap, for better fuel economy

if fuels not a problem i'll sell you the evo.....16mile to a tenner of super unleaded......delivering the thing to ya would cost a fortune in fuel alone!

Re: 1/1 scale car opinions
Have a look at Fabia VRS, my lad has one, its has quick as my ST up to 90 doesnt sound the same but returns over 50 to the gallon.
Search around and you can find one with 6cd changer etc

Re: 1/1 scale car opinions
I envy you your choices, car shopping for a 7 seater at the moment hard to get excited when test driving them
From your list I'd be torn between the Civic TypeR and the S3, probaly would favour the Audi as too many boy racers in civics now, but still love the engine in those cars

Re: 1/1 scale car opinions
The best car I have ever owned and liked the most was my Audi 2001 A3 1.6! An S3 was the dream car in 2003-there are a few good ones on Pistonheads at the moment. Superb build quality, easy to fix, and still look good. The S3 was a real sleeper as it looked so normal

Or if you want to own and run a MK II Golf Gti that will hold its value:

Re: 1/1 scale car opinions
Haven't owned any of the above (unless you count a derv mk4 golf), but I'd love either an s3 or a clio 182.
Are most s3's not more than 3.5k though?

Re: 1/1 scale car opinions
Cheers for you advice everyone. Like the look of your old S3 paul
Dave, if im honest I really dont like BMW's. The only car of theirs I would have is an e30 m3 and thats because of its rally history. BMW's have never done it for me

Re: 1/1 scale car opinions
I test drove an S3 back in 2001 when they first came out, excellent car loved it but at the time it was just above my budget and I went for a Golf V6 4motion.
I'd say if you can get an S3 for your budget go for it, great car to drive and german build quality

With a bit of Phil's Milliput and decalling skills Paul, you could find yourself with a 1/1th scale model of David Kynaston's rally car if you still owned this mate....

i had a golf 4motion top car great to drive i swapped it in for the civic type R big mistake that lasted 8 month and i went back to ford for a focus st3
if you value your spine dont get a type r try a 4motion V6 4wd its almost a 6R4

Great to know that about the type r. I have damaged ligaments at either side of my spine so its good to know that the type r has a very stiff ride. What was it you didnt like about the civic apart form the ride? The only thing about them is, they are mainly owned or have been owned by boy racers. The S3, or even the mk4 golf gti dont tend to be.
Cheers everyone for the comments. Is there anything anyone would reccomend that isnt on the list?
Re: 1/1 scale car opinions

Yeah I know what you mean about the civic. Its when the vtec kicks in from 7k I think.
No problem asking for advice on the rs focus

Re: 1/1 scale car opinions
If it's a DC2 Integra you are thinking about, it is probably the best drivers' car I have ever sat my ass in. However, if you are after a more sedate, comfortable car, steer clear.

Re: 1/1 scale car opinions
Looks like we are all agreed then-Its an Audi A3/S3. If you can't find a decent S3 got for a 1.8 Turbo Quattro-nearly as good!

Re: 1/1 scale car opinions
I ran a VRS for 50k. Only servicing (roughly every 18k) tyres, pads & a headlamp bulb in that time. The only reason I didn't have another was I felt the Mk2 was a bit 'flabby'. Bought an Impreza instead.....
