Plans for the display progressing. Expect to have a small selection of JFE models for sale on the day - postie permitting. On a different topic - JFE had an advert in the 2013 West Cork Rally Programme.

Thank you Ted.....You must be congrulated on the two Coleman models that you turned out for the show on Easter Sunday (today)...The Alpine and a West Cork Rally Mk2....both turned out fabelous.....i know one of the young lads that was serving his time in Colemans garage during that era and was in West Cork at that event....well he lives around the corner from the show and i knowhe will be blown away when he sees that model........and what a small world....his son now navigates for my son........their model will be there also.........including a very Special model by NOEL......

I believe Sean Buckley will arrive with another one off of a LOCAL car ?????????

Good to meet with you. Donie, Gavin and Sean put a lot of time and effort in and it seems to have paid off. It was great that some very rare models broke cover and saw the light of day. If a display of model rallycars was not well received in Millstreet then there would be something very wrong with the world !! Most people know it as the birthplace of Billy Coleman but what many don't realise is that Billy was one of many involved in the sport hereabouts - its probably something in the water in these parts. The dept of rallying knowledge, expertise and stories by those viewing the display was incredible. We hope that we may have unearthed a store of old rally photos - fingers crossed.

What a very enjoyable day. I got there about two hours before the show was to start and the model display stand (structure) was all set up.
I didn't really realise the amount of effort, time and preparation that had been put into this until the stand was being disassembled and the packing of constituent parts packed cars, a trailer and a van! So well done and thank you to Donie, James an Gavin.

I really was great to meet and chat with the people that came to see the display there was a great buzz around the stand and also lots of "How much is that?" - If they only knew!! It was also good to meet Niall (niallod) - its great to put a face to the name.

I don't think my photos do justice to the quality (and quantity) of the collection on display but here goes:

...and finally and by no means least - Not a rally model - but very very interesting I'm sure you'll agree. James arrived with a 'big white box' which kept us all in suspense untill he finally revealled this rare beauty. A pewter model of the Model T assembly line - what a joy to see:

Excellent photos Sean. Sean brought some rare models - quality was outstanding. His garage display of the Coleman big boys was superb. Thanks to Ted for the excellent Coleman Alpine and API 100. Great to meet with Niall. Overall theme requested by the organisers was local rally cars/competitors. With the Cork 20 based in Millstreet for the next two years we also managed to get hold of a DVD of Cork 20's from the 1970's and 1980's which brought back a few memories to us elder lemons.

Firstly thank you to everybody who helped with the day....James brought a load of amazing models including the Ford Model T assembly line.....the first ever assembly line and by a Cork man...HFH collection and many many others....Colin Mcrea collection by supplied by Stephen Collins....... a nimber of once offs.... one was supplied by Kevin Hickey....made by Ryan Catterson a bunch of his friends got together and got this made as a wedding present......a Nova supplied by Derry Collins made by Phil Boyle....for Derrys birthday in January........a number of trucks were supplied by John Murphy...and K and L Deliveries where the event was staged.... I also want to thank Sean Buckley who arrived with a fabelous collection of Billy Colemans 1/18 scale models..they were home made to the most amazing quality ever..
Shame we were so busy all day that we did not get a minute to chat to each other or a chance to view each others models....another great sucess was a PC showing DVDs of the Cork 20 rallys from the 70/80s.....loads of people glued to it....thank you to Gavin who helped us set up and remove the stand.....

So sucessful was the display that we were asked to attend another show in Clare next weekend but that is a non runner for us........Millstreet was 5 miles from us so it was easy to do with no expence incured........the display was filmed by LTV television station and also a radio interview that went out live on www. Cork Music Station.com.
The interest was unbelievable from young and old also showing an interest was local competitors who may want to get models of their own cars made......they did not know this was possible....
While we had many rally cars on show they were from rallies far and wide and LOCAL we had many makes and models shapes and colours many drivers and navigators also far and wide......we also had models from an a huge number of modle makers....so thank you each and every one of you guys out there who turn out such exquisit models........i will attemp to go through each photo that Sean Buckley put up today.......again thank you one and all..........Donie..

The Cork 20 Rally collection was decieded as this rally is based in Millstreet for 2013 and 2014....first photo of this collection is an A.P.S. model of the car used by Guy Wilks then to the left is the Car used by Daniel Sordo .....this maybe a JFE or by Rodney I.R.M...to the right is a mk2 of the late Frank Meagher also Cork 20 rally by KMD....
Next photo is the TRITON Subaru of Markko Martin not sure may be JFE...to the rear of this is a Cuisine de France Subaru by Alan from APS....also you can see a VERY RARE model...a Mk 2 CORTINA used by part of the British Rally Team on the World Cup Rally...but this car carried a IRISH registeration..VPI 77 a CORK reg to be exact....after investigating we discovered this car was built for Fords in Cork and use by Rosemary Smith in another marathon rally London to Sydney the previous year...hence the Irish plate.....ONLY 10 models were made one each for the 2 drivers 1 nivigator and two mecanics and 5 for the owner of the car Cal Withers owner and sponsor (Withers of Winsford).....all information thanks to Andy Howdle of Rallymodels.co.uk.....
to be continued....

Post  JOB Mon Apr 01, 2013 11:28 pm

I bought 8 counter top display units from a closing down jewelry shop. They triangular as you can see with a solid base and glass top, glass on two sides and the third side is a lockable opening door. They are approx 10mm (4 inches ) high and each side approx 90mm (30 inches) .

Each case had a theme - Nesbitt, Coleman x2 , Brookes, Cronin & O'Callaghan, Cork 20 and Other Locals x2. In between the cases we put b&w copy photos of local drivers.

The Beetle photos are of Paddy O'Callaghan - father of Liam O'Callaghan. Anyone know where one can get 1/43 whels for the beetle ?

Sean's 1/18 models were housed in his self built garage - out of the reach of the public for obvious reasons.

As Donie said we had such a flow of competitors both past and present we literally did not have time to talk to one another. Weather out of doors was pretty inclement. A large proportion of the indoor displays had a female focus and most of the others were selling something so our area became a congregating area. Most of the older generation would have stories about rallying , be it the Colemans, O'Callaghans, old Circuit of Ireland etc etc. Rallying goes back well over 50 years in these parts.
